Neil Warnock the best ever?

Sun Dec 30, 2018 12:49 pm

Some people already think he’s the best manager we’ve ever had but if he keeps us up would you say he’d go down as the greatest ever for city?

Promotion with a shoestring budget team when everyone thought we'd finish mid table at best and if he keeps us up he will definitely be up there with the best manager we've had

Hands down in my period watching the city, since the Frank Burrows days

I've been watching the City since 1970 and Warnock is the best manager we have had by a considerable distance.

I loved Jimmy Schoular when I first started going and of course in the 1920's we won the FA Cup and played in the top divison but to do what Warnock has done bearing in mind where the club as a whole was when he took over is nothing short of phenomenal.

Scoular and Warnock the two best since I have been watching the club. Just my opinion.

If, and it’s still a big if...

But if he keeps us up, no contest.

Schoular by far musnt forget what he did with a 2nd tier team against what then were power house teams in Europe the Moscows, real ect ect.... NW is the best at what he does with clubs in trouble.

Obviously no one has come close to achieving what Fred Stewart did as Cardiff city manager.
In my time watching since 1975 Neil Warnock definitely the best.

No one's mentioned Dave Jones. Sure Annis would agree

Warnock is the best we have had in my eyes, closely followed by Frank Burrows, both have done remarkable jobs on shoe string budgets. Eddie May is up there as one of the most popular with the fans along with Warnock. :bluescarf: :ayatollah: :bluebird:

Can't believe Slade hasn't been mentioned :laughing6:

I enjoyed Frank Burrows and Dave Jones first time around but King Warnock has to be up there.

No, not at all . It's also my opinion and, therefore, a definitive fact.
I'd have to say at this point , notwithstanding one of the above comments about Sir Jim doing well in Europe, and without any disrespect to that great great man's memory, that Sir Neil has achieved the one thing he never managed despite many close things - promotion to the top flight.
They're very similar characters in many ways though, and both cut from the same cloth. If anything, Sir Neil is a lot more diplomatic and less demanding. In both cases they give and gave the very last bit of commitment to the team and the club to an extent that no one in my memory has.

Come on - there's a reason why I revived the then commonplace thing of referring to the manager with an imaginary knighthood , and that's because this one is the first since Sir Jim to thoroughly deserve it !

Can't find anything associating him with Cardiff City but please have a look at this and think of Sir Jim

No Fred Stewart and by a mile but Warnock is definetly the best we have had in the modern era.

Jimmy Scoular was our manager when I started watching and I do remember those days and him with a fondness.

but best manager ever ? he should not be anywhere near the list..we finished just 1 place above the drop 3 times under him and when he went he had won just 3 of his final 26 games...3 or 4 good cup results and 1 decent go at promotion ..no....just no.
his over all record was not good and would have been sacked in the modern era if not after his 2nd season defo after the 3rd.

Good arguments to be had here. I too started watching when scholar was manager but got to agree with above. I also loved the Eddie may team but nw's record speakers for itself hard to argue against it.
