Premiership in Vortex of confusion

Sun Dec 30, 2018 12:39 am

Some strange, unexpected and entirely inconsistent results in the last few games. We beat Wolves then they beat Man City.
Palace beat Man City, then we draw with them etc etc etc. Arsenal lost 5-1, Brighton beat Everton . Leicester beat two big teams then we beat them on their own pitch.
I could go on, and you could add lots of anomalies .
We're at a point , you know , where anyone can beat anyone at the moment, and there's no telling what will happen next. It's as if everyone has lost their composure and no one is certain of what they're up to.

How do you explain this mid winter madness and don't you think that this is an opportunity for us to grab a few unexpected points before things settle down ?

Is it possible that my original forecast of tenth place might yet come to pass if we can be consistent and if luck is on our side ?

Premiership? :?

What's rugby got to do with an association football Forum? :?

Oh sorry , did I use the wrong word ? Well I'm very very sorry. People probably had no idea what I was talking about when I called it that, did they ?
What's with the attempted put down remarks I wonder ? I can do really cutting ones if you like that sort of thing, but I don't really see the value in being pointlessly rude.

No it wasn’t it was formed in 1992. The old division one is a completely different thing wasn’t just renamed hense why we lifted the old trophy when we won the championship.

Alright if you want to be pedantic about it then. However every man and his dog knows that the prem is merely a continuation of the old division one. Only fools and sky tv presenters want us to believe that no top class football existed before the prem.

No your wrong there. The Football League and Premier League are two separate things.

Nothing pedantic, put down or cutting about the above or my original remark...

The SirJimmySchoular character continually refers to the competition we are in as the Premiership when it's title is the FA Premier League and has been since its conception in 20th February 1992

It's NEVER been called The Premiership; that is a rugby tournament and therefor somewhat different...

Shall we refer to our league as 'English Series A', 'English Budesliga', 'English La Liga' or 'English League Un' so freely? :?

It's the Premier League and something most of us are proud to embrace, respect and be part of! ;) :ayatollah:

Honestly, I don't believe this nonsense.
I certainly don't sit here pulling anyone's grammar or their use of language to bits. It's a football forum, not Matriculation.
It'd be possible to do that all the time of course , and that'd apply to your posts as much as anyone's.
If you want to be that pedantic about it, " premiership " is a SYNONYM of "The Premier League" .
That is to say, an alternative way of expressing a noun if you wish to add colour or meaning to a sentence ,or simply avoid repetition of the same word. You might also say " the top flight" , "top level", "highest strata", or anything also which takes your fancy and doesn't insult syntax or grammar.
The fact that the rugby union has used the word "premiership" doesn't restrict its use by anyone else or remove it from the lexicon.
In short, you can use different wordies to mean the same thing at your own discretion and the test is whether or not they convey your meaning effectively, so you don't need to stop learning new words once you've heard an idea or object conveyed by one of them.

Saying all this, I don't care at all , and I wouldn't try and put anyone down about the way they express themselves myself, but I've got to point this out to you because the point you're trying to make, ( who knows why ? ) , is plain bloody wrong !

I don't think the majority of people care about grammar on a football forum. The only thing that bothers me is when people say Zahore instead of Zohore

yes but it carried on as if nothing had happened..the relegated teams still got relegated, the promotred teams still got promoted..rules did not change or did the teams, points system or European qualification ,the stadiums or the seagulls that shit on the grounds...purely about money..never thought i would come across people that think winning the championship while finishing 21st made any sense but eh oh...

right, getting back to the thread about this years top tier..

i know Puel got slaughtered on here for suggesting fatigue but i do think its a factor for all clubs..yes they all play roughly the same but some games take more out of you physically or even mentally than others..and possibly if one team comes off a pitch feeling on top of the world and their next opponents come off drained and dejected with such short windows it can make a huge difference..no doubt there will be the normal pro footballers should be able to play to 100% 7 days a week posts...
