'Football is about scoring goals' - what they said

Crystal Palace 0 Cardiff City 0 :bluebird:

ROY HODGSON:

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson told Match of the Day: "We started well but were unable to see that period out until half-time, Cardiff began to deal with our attacks. But then we changed one or two things and were pretty much camped in their half in the second half.

"But we were up against a team that knows how to defend, they're brave and put their bodies on the line, so I can't criticise the players for their effort. I'm pleased about the number of chances we created but I'm not pleased we didn't convert one of them.

"It's something we've had to deal with for a large part of the season. If we had more fortune in front of goal then we would be nowhere near where we are, we'd have assembled a lot more points.

"But football is about scoring goals and taking those semi opportunities, which good goal scorers find a way of scoring.

"Connor Wickham's been dogged by bad luck, not just in getting injured but in his comeback attempts.

"It's nice to see his effort rewarded. Now he needs more football, he needs more games, but once he is up to speed we have someone who will score goals because he's got a proven scoring record."

NEIL WARNOCK:

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock told Match of the Day: "I thought we were a bit nervous in the first 10 minutes but then we grew into the game and looked more positive. We looked to play and created some good chances.

"We didn't try to shut the shop up, towards the end we were trying to get a winner. I thought their goalie made the best save but Manga's tackle on Zaha, I don't know where he got that from!

"It's not from the training ground, it's elementary mistakes that have cost us so far. You're going to have opportunities when you have Zaha and Townsend, and players like that.

"So we've tried to limit them and we did. We stayed strong and on another day we could have got all three points."
