Attendances alone do not a "massive club" make. Would anyone argue that West Ham are the 3rd biggest club in England this season?
The size of a club is a complex mixture of trophies, history, fan base and also ambition!

Also, a shout out to Wrexham who smashed Salford 5-1 with a crowd of over 8k.

And those clubs are situated in bigger cities hence the larger fan bases.

But to be fair to all those 4 clubs Tony, non of them have won much major for many many years.
They keep good support even during years of say relegation or lower division football home and away![]()

You are right AnnisI was trying to make a point (badly as it happens) that clubs in bigger cities must be bigger clubs because they have a natural fan base. I have always marvelled at how Leeds, Newcastle, Sunderland and even not so long ago Manchester City kept their supporter levels whilst playing in the lower leagues.

Yes, not doubting their support. Sunderland has a fantastic support.

There of course a big club but really they just have a big fan base. The things there most famous for in the last couple of years is back to back relegations an having a nonce in there first team squad.
Massive massive clubs do not have to ask for there fans to come and replace there cheap faded seats for them.

You say excuses, but they are reasons.
All things being equal their population would not sustain those crowds.
There are therefore REASONS for the percentage that choose to attend their games.
Having about a quarter of your population attending a single event does not suggest a well developed entertainment catalogue for the city.
Still an amazing feat for football albeit where football is all you may have.

so whats stopping them being massive is they do not have some dodgy billionaire to bankroll some new seats..?
or buy them trophies.?
had the Chelsea or Man Citys owners decided to go to the north east instead you and Baz would be now saying the same about Chelsea and Man City.
i think size of club is crowd based , ambition changes and trophies can be funded for limited periods .

Don't presume to have any insight as to what one's opinions may be as regards other clubs or speculative alternative scenarios. Personally I wouldn't consider Chelsea or Manchester City to be massive clubs...
