' Rumours on Gary Madine '

Wed Dec 26, 2018 10:47 am

A Bolton fan and friend of mine, says that its rumoured Gary Madine is going back to Bolton on loan?

Problem is Bolton have not much money, Gary Madine is on approx £30,000 a week, how much can Bolton pay towards Madines wages?

To some extent, can Bolton in their current position afford not to push the boat out for a player they know, who fits the club profile, will be hungry to prove a point and whose wages would surely be heavily subsidised by the parent club?

Personally, I'm disappointed for Gary Madine more than I am in him; I'm sure he is a better player than he has been portrayed and may simply be a (may be the wrong word) victim of the way our manager picks and plays his team?

By that, I mean that the manager seems to have a set system of play and 'trusts' the players he uses, which in return means minimal changes and therefor chances for fringe players. We see that with others, too; Bobby Reid, Loic Damour (a player I liked the look of when he played last season), the previously reliable Matthew Connolly and to some extent even the more used of late Kadeem Harris

The positive is that if this happens, it will be to open up a place in the squad and that can only be good news

With that in mind, even better news would be a couple of other players going out permanently or on loan, too; definitely perennial wage collectors like Anthony Pilkington and the already departed Lee Tomlin (I hope the full truth comes out on that guy one day) and maybe Matthew Connolly and the unfortunate Loic Damour

That bunch would decrease the wage bill by some margin and (with Gary Madine) would free up at least three spaces, one in each area of the field, which would in return be positive news for the three additions and positions in which the manager has said he'd like to invest this window

We can only hope... :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

Chris,

Gary Madine for us has been a total waste of money and done nothing for us.

Your right Bolton might push the boat out.

On the positive side as you say, we will have room in the squad for a new striker :thumbright:

Annis, I agree; I'm just not 100% sure it's all been down to Gary Madine (unlike Lee Tomlin) :thumbright: :ayatollah:

I think he was the kick up the ass that Ken needed at the time, albeit an expensive one. If we didn't buy him, would we have been promoted?

This is so sad we will never be able to go onto the pitch now. :sad7: :sad7:

Surely he should be up for sale in Jan. Cut our losses and sell along with a few others I could mention.

Perhaps he could not fit in with the current group
Could be personnel reasons, who knows.
Never really given a run and injured almost as soon as he joined.

Don’t be silly. You do realise he’s under what they call a ‘contract’?
Don’t you think he would be sold if possible? The type of clubs that would want him are league 1 and a few from championship.
Not many there would pay 30 odd grand a week.

Chris, I can tell you for sure that the club are working hard to get rid of the players doing nothing at the club and earning the big wedge.
They’re, obviously, well aware of this fact and to some extent it’s restricting things.

Thanks, Paul. I know your info is generally sound, so that's music to my ears! :thumbright:

Let's hope the outgoings (like Tomlin) are already pretty much sorted and we can move to bring in quickly :ayatollah:

Maybe he can take Danny Ward with him as he is always injured and not worth his wage

Warnock must have been smoking crack the week he decided it was alright to spend 6 million on madine and pay him 30k a week. Unbelievable.

January clesrout a must to create funding for new players. Madine. Ward. Richards along with others who cannot make the first team squad or are continually injured and taking money under false pretences.

Yes apparently it was good crack as NW also had visions of getting us promoted to the Premier League

I honestly find it bonkers everytime I read this stuff..puts me in mind of parents who have turned up to watch their little Johnny play under 7s who previously have never had an interest in the game...never mind johnny you might score next week...b b but I was a defender,man of the match and we won the cup...{I know Madine is not a defender }
bought as cover for Ken because we had no other realistic option at the time, starts 6 games of which we won 4 and drew 1..did nothing

How many premier league minutes has he had for us? Considering our problems I find it mad he hasn't been given a chance at some point. Warnock clearly doesn't rate him at this level so if we can loan him out let's do it.

I agree, I think he was brought in to push us over the line, or failing that be a decent championship addition to our squad had we stayed down.
