Cardiff City join race to sign Sunderland's Josh Maja - reports
By Dominic BoothDigital Sports Writer

Cardiff City have joined the race to sign promising young Sunderland forward Josh Maja, according to reports.

The Sun's Alan Nixon claims the Bluebirds want the 19-year-old on a permanent deal either in January or in the summer and confirmed their interest in Oumar Niasse on a potential loan from Everton.

Maja, who turns 20 just after Christmas, has scored 13 goals in 25 appearances (in all competitions) for Jack Ross' Black Cats this season.

He broke through in the Championship last season under former Wales boss Chris Coleman and has continued his sensational form. He could follow fellow Sunderland teammate Joel Asoro, now at Swansea City, in making the switch from Wearside to South Wales.

And although Neil Warnock wants a more experienced option up front and continues to pursue Nantes striker Emiliano Sala , Maja is seen as a good option for the future.

The teenager's contract expires at the end of the season and he is yet to decide if his future lies at the Stadium of Light or elsewhere.

Cardiff also want a central midfielder and a right back in January.

Would be a decent future signing as he's only 19 but we'd still need a striker who can score between 8-14 goals a season in the prem and I don't think he could do that just yet.

More realistic bet than Sala I’d think and would be a bench option and if we were to go down he would be one of our main striker to score the goals to get us back up.
