Mehemt Dalman gave a rare interview and spoke about the January transfer window

Mehmet Dalman has given an honest assessment of how Cardiff City are faring in their pursuit of new recruits, admitting the transfer search is "not going well".

The Bluebirds chairman insists "a good budget" is available for Neil Warnock to spend on three or four players in the upcoming January window - including a striker - but admitted he and owner Vincent Tan have different transfer philosophies.

Tan is willing to sanction cash, but Dalman echoed the words of Warnock in saying that Cardiff won't pay over the odds for new players.

"We're very focussed on the January window," he said in a rare interview.

"In fact we're working extremely hard, we're looking to bring in three or four players. We're halfway through our target list and we'll continue to work hard at it.

"We have a very good approach to the transfer targets we have. We all have a say in what we should be doing. At the end of the day, the manager really dictates who his targets are.

"We'll never put a manager in a situation where he plays a player who he didn't pick. That just doesn't make sense to me.

"The key question is money, what we can afford and what we can't. We have different philosophies when it comes to that.

"For example my philosophy is 'let's spend proper money on a proper player and if we have to loan the others, that's a better way to do it'.

"Rather than go for players at a price which isn't going to get the quality we want."

Warnock last week revealed he was confiding heavily in Dalman and chief executive Ken Choo on transfers.

And after the Bluebirds received a knockback in their negotiations with Nantes over striker Emiliano Sala, Dalman added on the transfer search: "It's not going well. Every time we go for somebody, things change.

"The January window is a difficult window to do business in."

The Cardiff hierarchy, however, will keep striving for deals to help boost the club's Premier League survival hopes.

After the 5-1 defeat to Manchester United, Warnock further emphasised the need for new additions.

He also suggested a re-energised Kenneth Zohore could boost the Bluebirds in the striker department.

I was only wondering yesterday if he was still with the club, not seen much about him.Wasnt he the one who pushed for Ole to become our manager.
PS I’m not criticising him for that gamble.

Reading between the lines we're preparing for Championship football

Getting in excuses early. If we go down the administration are completely to blame. I can understand a prudent approach but we are woefully short of a competitive premier league squad. If we are waiting until the end of January it will also be too late. I see yet another grim Christmas ahead getting no points and we'll be bottom or bottom two after the Spurs game. The long term strategy at the club makes no sense. We have a wonderful opportunity this season but seem more content to build a Championship squad for next year. It is never a given to bounce back from that league and we could well be struggling in that division this time next year.

IF he really believes thAt people will pay hard earns money to watch the rubbish like yesterday then he is in for a BIG surprise He has a choice spend money to bring some CLASS Players or get used to championship football at best

To be honest I think being priced out of the Sala deal would benifit us this is the first time he's ever been so consistent infront of goal and he's 28 could be a Bothroyd season where it went good then went bust could find someone more consistent and a little younger for sell on value I feel like Ihanacheo from Leicester or Origi from Liverpool both on the bench not getting much game time both capable of doing the job

I think the money is there for the right player at the right price

However, if I am being brutally honest if you are any sort of decent striker are you really going to sign for us and have to basically live of scraps and have very few chances created for you??

Unfortunately we are not an attractive proposition for any player looking to enhance his career

That I believe is what Dalman is alluding too, the simple fact is without paying ridiculous wages we are going to struggle to attract decent players

If their not getting games and are hungry enough to be wanting to play and prove themselves then yes but if they don't have that kind of hunger why would you want them just move onto the next target

Agree with all the previous.the fans are backing the club in big numbers home and away and staying behind the team.
Yesterdays performance was shocking they looked like rabbits caught in the headlights.

That is what they said, "Sensible Spending" Not Going After A Player That Will Feature a few times in the last stretch of this season.

Be nice if we could sign players able to actually move the ball around and create some chances. Whoever is up front always have poor service. Look at the way most teams ping the ball around against us.

Tan needs to go we can't compete with him in charge. If we get relagated he's failed twice in my eyes. Anyone can get a team up but it means nothing if you can't stay up.

How is Tan the issue? Mehmet has just said Tan has said there is money to spend. If you have a problem with the management it is Mehmet and Warnock you have your complaints with.

Some appalling comments from some of natures natural losers and whiners there.
We don't run away crying whe things go wrong or start looking for scapegoats if we intend to complete the mission, and I don't even know how some of these people can call themselves supporters.

Dalman being the huge UTD fan that he is, will have a word perhaps.

Late September 2016 , down and completely out , Trollope in charge and in freefall.
Crowds at 13000 and no hope.
December 2018 out of the bottom 3 in the premier league , still believing that we can perform a miracle and stay up.
Perhaps yesterday's mauling was a blessing in disguise as surely Tan and Dalman realise the club needs a major influx of players to give the club a fighting chance of staying up.

A catch 22 situation for club we all know jan is an inflated market time so be lucky get players in especially a striker at right price., the damage was done at beginning of the season with poor buying of players! But on bright side the side as it stands is a very good championship team and the cannot think of any of our players being high on another clubs radar so another promotion would be a good bet? :old:

Let’s remember the club is trying to be debt free so of course we’re not going to spend over the odds can’t gave it both ways mum we are in a fortunate position at the moment let’s not forget.

Or is Tan trying to have his say in who is signed?
He has previous at this.
Also Dalman re iterating Neil is the best manager he has seen whilst at Cardiff City.

Did either of you read the article. He said Tan said cash is available but Warnock and Dalman won't pay over the odds. Also in the summer Warnock said he had £10 million still available but could not get anyone of the quality he needed. I hope Reid comes good (and I think he will), otherwise NW could have not got Reid but purchased a £20mill centre forward.
None of us are perfect (e.g. Buying Madine), but  I am sure we will get a couple of decent signings. Keep the faith, and stop criticising VT without good reason. :bluebird:
