Remember him well.

If I hadn't had a haircut for the last 20 years I still wouldn't have anything like the flowing locks of the midfield maestro that is Paul Wimbleton.

Did anyone ever go the barbers and ask for a "Wimbleton" I wonder?

My fave player in that team.
Was a competition between him and Steve Tupling who had the longest hair in the squad.
Brian McDermott also in that team along with the brilliant Micky Platnauer.
Very poor crowds in them days but great times watching City.

Remembered with affection, a great time to support the club, great memories of many away days. Pity more Cardiffians didn't enjoy them, they were busy watching the results of the so called bigger clubs.

Remember him bagging a brace in a 3-1 Welsh Cup QF win over Merthyr, bumper crowd of 7,213 if memory serves me right!

Yes, remember him scoring 2 at Wolves when we won 4-1, in the dungeon..aye, crowds were a bit thin then. One game (York??) was about 1700 crowd..real bad days...amazing we’re averaging 30k now.

Don't be too harsh on our support football all over the country was on its arse all over the country in the 80s / 90s. Crowds started to pick up when clubs started building new stadiums and then the inception of the premier league.but even that was a slow burner.

Paul Philip Wimbleton (born 13 November 1964)

In July 1986 he signed for Cardiff City manager Frank Burrows, who had been Portsmouth manager for a short time when Wimbleton began to break into the first team. He was ever-present in his first year at the club, making 46 league appearances and playing a total of 59 competitive games. He finished as top scorer with eleven goals in all competitions before helping the side gain promotion, also winning the Welsh Cup.

Wimbleton was voted PFA Team Player of the Year and Cardiff Player of the Year. He spent one more year at Cardiff before moving to Bristol City in 1989. He spent one year at Bristol, helping them to league promotion, and went on to have similar one year spells at Shrewsbury Town, which included a short loan spell at Maidstone United, Exeter City in 1991 and Swansea City in 1992 before moving to Barry Town.

As a Barry Town player he won the Welsh Cup for a second time before travelling to South Africa to play for Cape Town Spurs in the South African first Division. The following season 1995–1996 he went to play in the Hong Kong first Division for Sing Tao, helping them to win the Viceroy Cup. He was transferred to Kui Tan at the end of the 1995–1996 season. In the 1995–1996 season Wimbleton played for Cork City.

In the summer of the 1997–1998 season, Wimbleton played for Foshan in the Chinese first Division. At the end of the 1997–1998 season Wimbleton moved again, this time playing for Merthyr Tydfil. Some of my best memories 1989 watching city low crowds yes but me and my Llanishen mates from school used to go to the old arcade or the Lloyds before the game.
Then chips in Caroline st..the we worked to Ninian park
We all loved it stood I the I bob bank abusing the away players and fans with songs you don't here now.
Never understood the one man and his dog spot went to no a meadow though please some one explain.
Good times for us back then small crowds limited football small teams .
But nothing beats those times for me.
Remember the players Scotland's number one Haaa. Mr lynex Haaa.

Used to stand there the great pride for my team great fans and songs.
Some memorable players to.

I think John Mutton Chops Reynolds helped pay the fee for him. Seriously though, we had some pretty poor players in those days and I include Wimbleton, Wheeler and Brignall among them

Compared to nowadays I agree but at the time they were the best we had.

Good player for us was Wimbleton. Went to The Wurzels and if memory serves he scored against us in a 3-0 win for them at Ninian? Bob Bank were chanting Wanky Wimbleton to him.
Some cracking hair dos in our side back then, with Mark Kelly and Tupling rivalling Wimbleton. Also Terry Boyle with his flowing locks lol

Could also be ‘went to war’(with Millwall).

Used to enjoy that ditty..

Didn’t wheeler score 2 late goals for us in the league cup 1988 at the vetch? We were 1 down from the first leg and the 2000 odd bluebirds there went nuts. First time I think I saw us win there. Loved 87/88 team, first season proper, good times.

Great player. Remember him scoring in a 1 -1 draw up in Scarborough in a mid week game. Scored a few goals too.
