Declan Rice identifies the Cardiff danger tactic
Posted by Hugh5outhon1895

Declan Rice has been watching Cardiff City closely – along with the rest of the squad – and has pinpointed the danger area for the Hammers.

The teenager claims that the Welsh outfit will be at there most potent from set pieces and thus Hammers defensive discipline seems to be key in that area.

The Irons are going to have to deal with that if they are to gain only their second back to back win in nearly two years – an astonishing statistic.

Neil Warnock teams are always extremely well organised and the current team is very direct which is unlikely to change at the London Stadium tonight.

Rice declared: “The main thing with Cardiff is they are strong on set pieces. They put it in the box from everywhere – from throw-ins, from the halfway line – and that’s what they do. They play to their strengths.

“You saw on Friday night that they scored from a volley inside the box and then a second one where they threw it in and it dropped to them and they scored.

“We’ve got to be on our game on Tuesday night and if we win, we get to 18 points and it’s a massive chance to move up the table.”

Obviously the squad has studied the threats likely to be posed by a team currently sitting in 16th place with 11 points – a decent recovery from their early season form following promotion.

But having identified the threat they pose they threat it’s easy to imagine the depth of anger there will be from the manager if the Hammers don’t deal with set pieces. It’s expected!

West Ham 'scouts' must have worked to work that one out (City strong at set pieces) but recent games have shown our players have more about them than that...

Added to that, the last sentence (above) shows the air of expectation from manager and WHU fans and it might just help the Cardiff City cause as the game goes on!

C'mon City! :thumbright: :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

Unfortunately that's nonsense though. We were excellent at corners last year but that hasn't worked very well in the Premiership, so I think he must have been watching old games

Funny how everyone seems to say that, yes we get it into the box quickly from throw ins but I think generally our set pieces have been more than a little disappointing this season.

Our strength from last season was defending set pieces and scoring from set pieces but we have struggled with both season.

Our 2nd goal against wolves was from a cross from ralls then bounced back off one of wolves players to holliet for our 2nd goal not from a throw as stated.

Our biggest threat this season has been crosses into the box from wide and wide free kicks, that's what it seems like anyway?

Agreed corners themselves have been disappointing, I like the long throws because it is unsettling teams at least it's making them overplay as they're scared to kick it out unless they really have too.

They need to sack their scouts. Our set pieces have been a real let down this year, Warnock confirmed that post Wolves. I hope we have a good go at them tonight, NML should be raring to go now. :ayatollah:
