Neil Warnock's stark January transfer window admission

Saturday 24th Nov 2018

Neil Warnock admits Cardiff City's efforts in their 1-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park is proof that the Bluebirds need to strengthen in the January transfer window.

Cardiff put in a strong defensive showing and frustrated Marco Silva's side for long periods on Merseyside, although Gylfi Sigurdsson's second half strike earned the Toffees all three points.

And following a battling display in the loss to the Toffees, Warnock admitted that his side could not have offered any more, which serves as proof that he needs to bolster his squad when the January window opens.

NEIL WARNOCK:

"We're going to have to do a bit of shopping because that's the best we can do that," admitted the Yorkshireman.

"I think to stay up we have to have that little bit more quality which we're looking at now.

"But it's not easy in January. The big clubs find it difficult aswell. For example, they've (Everton) paid £45m for a striker and £50m for a midfielder.

"We're not anywhere near that sort of level but I do feel we can improve the squad to give us a fighting chance."

"We know that if we get maybe three or four players, we'd like to get our number one targets but that might prove a little bit difficult but you've got to ask the question really."

"Vincent (Tan) has been really receptive and so have the board. So we've just got to do the best we can, we will need a few new faces in January"

"I think when they see how close we are, with that little bit more quality, we've got a right-back up front at the minute and he's doing really well, but that little bit more quality and nous in certain areas I think is what we need."

"But I can't fault the lads, I thought they were super."

Warnock felt Cardiff should have been awarded a free-kick and a throw-in prior to Sigurdsson's winner, with Kadeem Harris being fouled before referee Paul Tierney awarded a throw-in to Everton rather than the Bluebirds just moments before their opener.

And the veteran boss admits he was delighted with his side's efforts against the in-form Toffees, although he was naturally frustrated by the result.

NEIL WARNOCK:

"For the quality we've had in the past few weeks, I thought we made them look quite average today. That's down to us not them," admitted Warnock.

"I'm disappointed in the goal. Little things didn't go for us today. I thought Kadeem Harris was fouled just before the goal and then the ref somehow gives them a throw-in and they score from that.

"It's little things like that when you come away from home, it's very difficult to take really because it wasn't a great goal but it's cost us the game."

I wish he and Tan had realised this in the summer.

Neil seems to have lost his fighting spirit every interview is downbeat he looks quite on the sideline and does' nt seem to be enjoying it reality is hiting home perhaps and he has said many times he does'nt enjoy the premier as much as the championship i hope i am wrong but the body language does' nt look good from what i have witnessed he used to be having a giddy fit on the side lines and last season up at derby in the snow he was lambasting every interviewer all that fight has gone.

Neil Warnock and Tan sat back in the Summer in the transfer window, ,no ambition, Warnock was even unsure about how long he would continue as manager. Hardly a statement of intent or to instil confidence in the club. He’s even stated that Cardiff are not good enough to stay in the Premiership. The 3 bottom clubs Fulham, have changed their manager, Southampton’s manager Mark Hughes future is talked about as unstable. The time has come in my opinion to question, that can Warnick keep us in the Premier league?

Yes he can, but as he's said he needs players because he's gotten as much as anyone could get out of the boys we've got.
People might change their managers but that rarely works in these circumstances .
Teams which have achieved long term success have stuck with their manager through good times and bad - Bill Shankley, Alex Fergusson etc etc. Success comes gradually if it's the real deal , little by little , improving all the time with ups and downs along the way. Alternatively you can throw money at it and hope to do it overnight as some other teams have done and are doing - as I've written elsewhere on here , let's see how long that lasts.
With respect , your comments are quite silly and if acted upon would soon see us back at square one, so I hope you've got three to five years to wait while we go through a few managers who can't do it then eventually one who redesigns us from scratch - then no doubt do it all again because if he loses three or four games you'll think the answer is to sack him.

If we do anything like that , ( again), then we'll deserve the consequences. You need continuity and resilience to build a dynasty.

Look we knew it was going to be hard. , Warnock stood by the players who got us up. The togetherness is there for all to see. Arter has said he would like to stay on is evidence. Stop spreading negativity and let's hear you all doing YOUR bit on match days.Trust in Warnock.
