MY VIEW: CARDIFF CITY HELD THEIR OWN AND THEIR DEFENCE WAS V

Sat Nov 24, 2018 4:53 pm

MY VIEW/OPINION

CARDIFF CITY HELD THEIR OWN AND THEIR DEFENCE WAS VIRTUALLY SOLID TODAY, BUT EVERTON NEVER GAVE UP AND GOT THE 3PTS.

City played well today and were never outclassed, but Everton upped the second-half and persistently were in Cardiff's area and so eventually scored.

If City continue to play like today,a solid performance they will pick up points against the mid table clubs and beat the clubs around them.

Cardiff made Everton fight for every ball.

First-half: Everton had 77% of the ball, but credit to Cardiff, they defended really well and had limited the Toffees to precious little.

EVERTON 1 CARDIFF CITY 0

H/T 0-0

City: Etheridge; Manga, Morrison, Bamba, Cunningham; Arter, Gunnarsson, Ralls; Camarasa, Harris, Paterson.
Subs: Smithies, Peltier, Bennett, Ward, Murphy, Decordova-Reid, Hoilett.

Crowd 39,180
Away Support 2,200 Cardiff fans :bluebird:

Chances were few and far between and Everton dominated possession, but it remained goalless.

Cardiff were impressive in defence and Warnock must have been very happy going in at 0-0 :thumbright: :bluebird:

Etheridge was booked for time wasting.

H/T 0-0

Everton had a good spell that saw Richarlison pick out Sigurdsson on the edge of the box, but the Iceland man shot just over, also Bamba had to clear the ball off the line and Everton pressured Cardiff for long spells.

Everton upped the pressure and got the goal they were craving for 1-0

Everton took the lead through Sigurdsson who tapped home after Etheridge’s save from Walcott.

Josh Murphy replaced Kadeem Harris.

75th min Harry After was replaced by Junior Hoilett. He has put in a real shift today, but Warnock wa clearly sensing Cardiff can get something out of this game.

Danny ward came on for Camarsa.

Everton got the 3pts they deserved but were made to fight for them all the way.

F/T 1-0

Could've had a point there. Referee bottled that decision.

Oh well. Another game we were in til the end! Some nicer fixtures coming up!

A poor ref not giving us a foul before they scored, and not giving us a definite penalty! Bloody incompetent.

I'm not going to criticise the ref until I see the tv coverage. My mate who is an Everton fan has been texting me, and reckons the ref was correct. He is probably wearing his blue tinted glasses, but seems to be we always blame the ref. The match stats may be a good indication as to why we lost.

I really thought we would snatch a point.

Wolves, West Ham and Southampton, must be 6pts for us :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Can't believe City fans who blag on about stats and that's why we lost. We were good value for a point. Looked a stonewall penalty to me, I had a great view of it. Great effort by the whole team.

Pity we couldn't have gotten a point, but great progress when we can now go so close with a heavyweight opponent.
We do need to start winning some games now , but I think we probably can on the evidence of this. A point away to Everton would always have been a bonus but we came quite close. Essential that we now start breathing those teams who we can beat though .

Definitely mate. Can see it happening too! We're playing well.

Genuinely, it was about as clear a penalty as you can get. They get given every week.

Not seen it myself, be interesting to see it later. Every report I have listened to on radio & TV say Everton deserved the win. Sounds to me as if we fought well, but lacked that extra bit of quality. I still believe we can compete with those 7 or 8 sides who will be fighting with us for PL football next season. I can't give a true opinion on today's game as I was'nt there.

Kadeem must have a big pat on the back coz his backtracking cover for Manga saved a few goals i,m sure

Even radcliffe says we've improved but lack that cutting edge as we all know! Time for NW to stop the Patterson experiment and put Murphy on with backup rather that lone ranger in Patterson which is getting us nowhere.

Was the stonewall penalty in the first half or the second? Not seen anything that looks close to a penalty yet. Not heard (apart from a couple on here) anyone say anything other than Everton were the better side. I have watched the game now, and we battled hard and kept the scoreline respectable. No doubt in my mind that the best side won, but where I do agree with you is that it was a great effort. In fact, I can't fault the effort of the players (apart from Zohore) in every game we play.

Penalty appeal was in the second half, Coleman on Cunningham. It was a definite penalty, Cunningham touched it away, Coleman stepped in late and caught him, the reason he got away with it was because he didn't stick his leg out, it was planted and he arched his back and waved his hands so it made it seem like he hadn't touched him when he had. Don't know why Warnock didn't bring it up and why it wasn't shown on MOTD.

Perhaps the City players should have protested more. They were furious when the throw that ultimately resulted in the goal went against them, and I could see why. Warnock was annoyed as well. Looked to come off an Everton player to me. There was only a half hearted look at the ref for the penalty appeal, and no mention of it from Warnock. Maybe a good reason for VAR to be introduced.
