“ Gary Madine “
Cost Cardiff City £6mill And approx £25,000 a week wages
By Dominic Booth
Tuesday 20th November 2018
Madine played last night for Cardiff City DVP and scored.
Cardiff fans' reactions on social media were predictably amusing when they discovered Madine had found the net for the Under-23s.
Gary Madine goals don't come around very often in Bluebirds colours, so it was pleasing for everyone when the former Bolton frontman nodded home just before the end to make it 2-0.
But in truth, the striker hadn't looked particularly impressive during the 90 minutes that had transpired before. He won plenty of aerial balls and linked play well enough, but enjoyed precious few sights of goal.
That Madine was even featuring for the Under-23s says a lot about his standing at Cardiff right now.
And it doesn't look like he'll be troubling too many Premier League defences on this evidence, despite notching a confidence-boosting goal.
Callum Paterson holds the cards for Warnock up front right now, with Kenneth Zohore and Danny Ward the closest challengers.

How our fans judge a player on 3-4 mins here and there is farce missed a pen and scapegoat ever since

Well between signings like Madine and Patterson it all kinds of equals it’s self out.
The greatest managers of all time have signed some worse players then Gary Madine. I don’t know why we still have to beat this drum.

He had a run of games last season in the championship and it became obvious pretty quickly that he was rubbish. I'm not sure how anyone can make an argument that he deserves a run of games in the premier league. Over who exactly?
Warnock is playing him in the DVP for a reason at the end of the day.

Anyone mocking Madine should turn up to a match when Zahore plays at least Madine wins arial battles and tris to bring others in while Zahore does nothing and has done nothing since the end of the 16/17 season might aswell point out he done nothing before that little spell either should of sold him when we had the chance and we would be against a striker as bad as Zahore this weekend if Everton hadn't already released him

well it was pretty obvious he wasn't a prolific scorer { but you only had to look at his stats to figure that out }..he spent his time 25 yards out with back to goal winning headers while being doubled and we won most of the games he played a big part in..
not sure he was bought with this season in mind tbh..

Deep down Warnock knows he messed up with this diabolical signing. 6 million quid down the drain, let alone his reported 25 grand a week wages.

How long's he been playing for us now?... And the majority of our fan base can't even spell his name.

Madine is poor in the air for his size and has no technical ability or pace. Zohore is a far better player than Madine. Madine could never hack it in the premier league whereas Zohore has the ability he just has to want it a lot more than he has shown

Callum Paterson is doing enough to keep his place at the moment, I’d say Danny Ward should be next in line.
Not sure what order I’d put Madine and Zohore.
Still a little surprised that Pilkington wasn’t in the 25, he’s never stopped working and proved important last season on the odd occasion he got minutes.

I like Pilkington thought he dead really well when played upfront so I'm surprised he's not in the squad either.

Only forwards i been impressed with is Call and Ward, watching Madine in the Championship was enough
All i remember him for is missing the ball vs Wolves

Yeah and that's all he's good for. winning headers 25 yards from goal and a bit of hold up play. that is a minimum requirement for a big centre forward. Nothing personal against him, he was just a very poor signing imo. It happens.

those headers and more often than not dragging two players to him was our main outlet in the games he started..and we won most of those games.. the way we played in those games suggest it was our game plan and the fact we won the large majority suggest it worked....find it a bit harsh to call him poor when he was asked to play a certain way { back to goal 25 yards out } and the end result was a bunch of wins and promotion.
is that all he is good for.? ..i dont know mate ,by the looks of it unless we get relegated, Madine is still here only the game plan is different we will not find out { as I don't see him playing much any time soon }...he was certainly more popular at the other clubs he has played for..
having said that i dont think he is a premier league player and will be surprised if he is here past January.

I would prefer to see Pilks in the squad than either.

He’s off to Hull, Mark my words!

Ditto he scored goals when we needed it especially up front.
