The big flag

Tue Nov 20, 2018 3:03 pm

The big flag being passed over the Canton Stand at the Brighton game looked impressive , but I must admit to not knowing any of the names that were on it and some of them (e.g. "Chelsea Pat") didn`t even seem to be CCFC related.
I seem to recall seeing somewhere (on this board I think) that the flag was a tribute to former CCFC fans who had died , which is a great idea as a tribute, but can anyone list those named and what their connection was to the club as the Chelsea Pat bit has confused me if it is a CCFC fan tribute.

Anyone have any idea on this?

It is a great big flag. Some people must have made it and decided whose names should be on it and why.

It's a flag made by people who were/are into a certain culture and 'Lost Souls' is a play on words.

Chelsea Pat was exactly that, Pat from Chelsea who was big mates with lots of Cardiff Fans, into a culture many might disagree with. I met him once at one of Annis book launches seemed like a nice guy and the flag makers obviously put him on there, probably at the request of one of his Cardiff mates.

It's their flag, with their mates names on, you will never have a generic flag with all our departed fans names on, it would never be big enough and how would you decide who goes on it.

Yes that’s exactly what happened and the lads who have made the flag, decided who went on it and it’s their flag and their decision :thumbright: :bluebird:

Yes I first met Pat in 1982/83 on my way to Lincoln to watch Cardiff, I was on my own on Doncaster train station. Pat was with about 50 Chelsea and cheekily I asked them who they were, they were going to Barnsley to watch Chelsea. 50 of them all in Sheepskin coats etc

Pat invited me to watch Chelsea Away at Rotherham a couple of weeks later. I went and met up with Pat, he then came to Peterborough v Cardiff with me and so on, then as years went by we became very close friends.

I would often visit and stay with Pat in London during the 80’s and 90’s.
A true gentleman and a fantastic friend to many RIP

At Pats funeral I attended along with hundreds of other fans from all over Europe, he was so liked :thumbright:

Pat later became a friend to many many Cardiff fans and a great rapport started with City fans and Pat was often down here and then up in London with City fans :thumbright: :bluebird:

Thanks for the info.

Other than "Chelsea Pat" , is there any other names on the flag that were not CCFC fans?

I agree that you can never have every departed City fan on a flag - the match day big screen seems the best place for those mentions and works well - but how does the club decide what flags to allow to be displayed if they are not strictly CCFC related? There must be some rule . or anyone could bring along a similar flag with random names on.
