Paul Gascoigne has been charged with sexual assault after an incident on a train.

The former England midfielder faces one count of sexual assault by touching, said to be committed during a journey from York to Durham on August 20.

Football legend Paul Gascoigne has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman on a train from York to Durham.

The former England midfielder was arrested at Durham station on 20 August.

British Transport Police said the 51-year-old has now been charged with one count of sexual assault by touching and will appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court on 11 December.

Gazza shot to international fame during the 1990 World Cup.

After leaving his hometown club Newcastle United in 1988, he enjoyed success at Tottenham Hotspur, Lazio and Rangers.

A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said: "Paul Gascoigne... was charged via postal requisition with one count of sexual assault by touching, contrary to Section 3 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

"The charge relates to an incident on board a train on 20 August this year."

How dreadful to see this unfortunate man come to this. I seem to recall that he was arrested at Stevenage railway station a while back, so he seems to have some kind of tendency to misbehave on trains.
I'm sure that we all remember his strange behaviour during the Raoul Moat incident, and it does all seem on the face of it to be
connected to his mental health.
It's to be hoped that ,given the amount of money in professional football now, someone will find the funds to help him, although it's hard to deny that he seems to be spiralling further and further into madness.

My comment of him going so down hill is that once Gazza was one of the best players in the World and he’s just wasted it So badly.

For me your innocent till proven guilty.

He will be dead inside 2 years, what a waste of talent and an absolute embarrassment to his family, how many chances does this plank need before he wakes up and smells the coffee.

Don't give me this mental health nonsense, my sister is Bi-Polar and lost a leg when she was hit by a car on holiday yet she raises 4 children and works hard.

Ans I’ve met the guy and he really is mad as a box of frogs, he even took my mate into the dressing room before a match, causing Richard Gough to go mental and throw him out I’ve neverr saw anyone enjoy playing football as much as him and I don’t think anything filled the void when he stopped playing. He’s an alcoholic and simply shouldn’t drink but sadly, as had been said , I think it’s only a matter of time till h s found dead in the gutter. Tragic but he’s left me some great memories.
