Cunningham

Hardly a mention on social media, played well today despite clowns unfairly writing him off despite hardly playing. His first touch was excellent, his distribution was good, positional play good and was strong in the tackle. He slipped a few times which didn’t look great, but this guy can definitely be a decent left back for us at this level and championship. Why people are so quick to judge especially when Man City was one of the games he played is beyond.

Two decent left backs, we just need to sort out the right back situation

I think most people's issue is other positions were needed ahead of another left back.

Thought he did OK today, got better has the game went on. Probably a solid 6/10

Maybe you just answered your own question there Stringfellow, limited budget so buy one of each not two the same side!

Hmmm interesting post, see I think the reason many are ssaying he had a good game is due to the fact he wasn't really punished. He was often forward today which is great. But very slow to get back into position which was masked thanks in particular to an outstanding display by gunnar. Today again the win masked over the cracks, there really wasn't any movement uptop and we never looked like scoring. We seem to get the ball into the final third and then don't know what to do with it so we just cross it. Which is easily defended more often than not. On the other hand we seem to allow the opposition too much time and space up the other end of the pitch. And to be fair it felt like gunner was the only real one who stood out today, he got the ball and dragged the game forward. He got stuck in. Demanded the ball and drove forward.

Fair point but that doesn’t make Cunningham a bad player

A possession based game is not something we are comfortable with, it’s not what we are used to and we Can’t play to our strengths. Two banks of four with massive centre halves is difficult to break down, especially for a side like ours. Not sure about cracks it’s the premier league and we are the underdogs it’s where we are meant to be. Gunnarsson was absolutely superb.

He was superb today and its nice to see the guy getting the praise he deserves because he couldn't buy a friend on here during the off season.

Looks too slow going forward to me and dithers on the ball a lot. Too early to judge really, decent left back who should do a job but nothing special, dont know if hes better than bennett or not?

Seriously ?
The man is an international player whose been impressing in the championship as a running left back for years. He's scored the odd goal along the way and he's a very solid player . I think Sir Neil bought him thinking that Joe Bennet was going to Fulham and so we ended up with two very good full backs .
It's the one position where we've definitely got two equally competent alternatives. I think Joe shades him marginally myself, but only just but I don't know why anyone would question his credentials .

Physically bigger than Bennett and Brighton rely a lot on power so i can see why Warnock swapped them.

I do feel for either full back if Murphy is on your flank as he does FA of the defensive side of the game.

I agree. Maybe that’s why they swap wingers flanks to give at least one of the full backs s breal lol.

Bennett by far the better player for me and should be first choice unless injured
