Ramsey to leave Arsenal next summer

Midfielder told in person why he will not be offered new contract, Sky Sports News understands

Aaron Ramsey will leave Arsenal for free at the end of the season after the club told him in person why he will not be offered a new contract, Sky Sports News understands.

The Wales midfielder was understood to have been unhappy that nobody from the club had directly explained their reasons for withdrawing the offer of a new long-term deal following months of talks.

Ramsey had found out via his agent before speaking out publicly on the issue last week, telling a newspaper that he was hoping "somebody will come up and tell me why" the option to stay was taken off the table.

Those discussions finally took place over the weekend, Sky Sports News has been told, as Arsenal drew 2-2 away at Crystal Palace on Super Sunday to retain a place in the top four after 10 games.

Ramsey has now accepted that this will be his last season at the Emirates following a decade of service to the north London club, in which he has made 341 appearances and scored 59 goals since joining from Cardiff City for just under £5m in 2008.

He was an instrumental part of Arsene Wenger's team, winning three FA Cups in 2014, 2015 and 2017 and scoring the winner in two of those finals, and he has made 15 appearances - including six Premier League starts - under new head coach Unai Emery so far this season.

Emery has been pleased with Ramsey's performances and said last week he hopes the player will remain focused on the rest of the campaign.

"Aaron and the club can speak and he can think for his individual contract with the club and with his thinking maybe of the possibility that he won't continue here," he said. "But, for me, for us and for the team, it's about being together and getting better and in each training for us."

Is it becoming a trend for players to let contract slide? It seems more & more players are going into last year of contracts, the obvious benefits are you negotiate a signing on fee which can be worth a lot more mixed in with wages than if player is sold and just negotiate wages.. :old:

Will be interesting to see if anybody voices as to why Arsenal removes the offer, sounds to me like the deal he was offered was lass than the one he’s currently on, I know he’s had personal worries with his wife and newborns towards the end of her pregnancy but that wouldn’t stop him accepting and signing a new contract, also now gives Arsenal the option to sell him in January and try and get some decent money for him

And if I was him , after the way Arsenal have treated him, I would refuse to sign for anyone in January, as I am sure there will be plenty of clubs after him in the summer!

If we stay up why can't we offer him a signing on fee of ,say, £10 million. We'll be spending more than that on transfer fees for new players anyway and I'm sure Ramsay will end up here someday. The sooner the better.

The £10m fee is not the issue. It’s the £150k + a week he’s going to want over 3+ years - 5 times as much as anyone else in the club.

What are you on about?? Arsenal owe him nothing more, they've paid his wages and stood by him during his constant injury problems.

I know he's one of our own and we're biased, but let's be honest, he's not as valuable as we think he is. He has no set position; He lacks the discipline to play a deeper role, yet isnt consistant or creative enough to hold down an attacking position. Apart from his one break out season, he always gets injured before finding any consistent form. He can't get in this arsenal team right now, so why should they pay his high wages when the money could go towards somebody that fits emerys system better.

You are right of course. But I feel sure that if he invested the signing on fee wisely he could live pretty comfortably off it. I think I could.

Arsenal owe him nothing as will he owe them anything and yes Emery has his own ideas...

the rest.?..i do think your biased but its a negative bias.....you make him sound like an injury prone fringe player when the truth is only 10 players { none of the current squad } have played more premier league games for Arsenal and is still only 27..
