Leicester City will travel to Cardiff by coach rather than taking plane

Leicester City FC

Wednesday 31st October 2018

Leicester City will travel to Cardiff via coach instead of flying, following the tragic event that took place on Saturday.

The Foxes will make the commute on Friday for their Premier League encounter against Cardiff City and have opted to travel by coach as flying would be insensitive given chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha’s tragic death, the Press Association reports.

Srivaddhanaprabha died on Saturday, along with four other passengers, when his helicopter took off from the King Power Stadium and crashed in the vicinity.

The Midlands club announced they have delayed their Carabao Cup encounter with Southampton – which has been rescheduled for Tuesday – but will go ahead with their match against Cardiff City.

Leicester had considered postponing their league match against The Bluebirds, but it will go ahead after backing from the players and staff. There will be minute’s silence prior to kick off, while players will wear black armbands.

Cardiff executive director and chief executive Ken Choo told the Cardiff City website: “Following Saturday evening’s terrible events at King Power Stadium, the thoughts and feelings of Leicester City FC are at the forefront of our minds.

“As such, we will be offering our support to Leicester City in any way necessary in respect of this weekend’s fixture.”

Along with Srivaddhanaprabha, members of the chairman’s staff, Nursara Suknamai and Kaveporn Punpare, and pilot Eric Swaffer and his partner Izabela Roza Lechowicz died in the crash.

Tributes have flooded in and a books of condolence has been opened at the King Power Stadium, which is available from 8am to 10pm every day. An online book can be signed via the club’s website.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) are currently conducting an investigation as to establish what caused Saturday’s tragedy.

Flying from Leicester to Cardiff anyway?! When they have a luxury coach! It's not like they'll be sat at Anfield for 2 hours!

The vast majority, if not all, of Premier League clubs travel to away games by plane.

It’s not cost-effective, but can see why they do it. Likely to perform better if they’re on a plane, compared to sitting on a coach in traffic for a couple of hours.

With all the roadworks between there and here they won’t have much time to have a training session today either, another plus for us

Do you reckon I should leave Pontypridd a bit earlier to get to the ground on Saturday?
Usually go through morganstown / Radyr / fairwater / canton.
Normally leave 115 and get to bookies on Cowbridge rd just before 2.

With the fact there will be around 60-70k more people heading to Cardiff, more road closures then I’d say yes leave earlier, better to get to the ground early than rushing and missing kick off

There’s always road closures around the principality and castle for the international egg game, has a massive knock on effect further out too, especially as the road from the castle out towards Ely joins the one running passed CCS

It’s a logistical nightmare when you drive for a living, I always avoid any Cardiff calls on a Saturday when egg and footie are on in Cardiff if I’m working that day

So your saying it’s going to take two days to drive here from Leicester.

This will won't help them, and I wonder how all this will affect their performance, will this give us an advantage or will they be more up for a game than ever?

Have they thought this through properly? Unless they are staying at st David's spa they will be cought in traffic no matter what time leave for stadium ? Not ideal at best of times ... hopefully our club realise our staff
& players can have trouble as well :old:
Leicester travelling tomorrow apparently :o

Ridiculous to have two big games in the City on the same day? Many fans myself included would have liked to have gone to both games if they were on different days and both games would have had Full stadiums?

Smyths toy store are advertising that they will have WWE star Rusev meet and greet in store on Saturday from 4pm, this will also add to the volume of traffic around the stadium before kick off as they will be expecting a large crowd there before 3 to queue

For f**k sake it’s not that bad. Both Leicester and our players will be there long before any fans turn up.
