' Premiership or championship? '

Am absolutely loving it this year, the togetherness, the atmosphere, the us against the world, the coverage the bigger crowds and the anticipation before a game be it a chance to win or a big boy in town. It’s the only place to be, or is it? Down sides are the uncompetitive division with the top 6 almost guaranteed a win, the gap was closing 3 or 4 years ago but it’s been blown apart again. That’s not good, and I don’t mean that from a Cardiff point of view but how can sides in the same division be 22-1 in a two horse race, that tells the story. With the odd exception, away from the ccs the atmospheres are dire and the premiership brand will surely burst.

The championship sees lower crowds less atmosphere at the ccs, and while the atmospheres even in the championship aren’t great these days they are far better than what we see in the premiership. The competitive edge of the division is fantastic, it’s only when your in the premiership you realise why so many people like the championship. I also love the physical side of the game is allowed to happen.

This isn’t a where would you rather be debate, for me it’s the premiership all day long you have to always aim as high as you can and our crowds and determination show we belong here, I have no doubt if we could just get through this season and I firmly believe we have a very good chance then we could progress.

Just my thoughts after ten games in the big division, lots of positives and some negatives.

At the moment it's great being in the premiership it would be a massive achievement to stay up. The problem is if you do survive the first two seasons were do you go from there? The novelty of playing the big 6 starts to wear off, I'd imagine that without a major investment the goal would be 40 points, is that what we want?

I've watched city for 45 years.ive seen enough lower leagues football to last a lifetime.the club needs a long period in the premier league and to a lift a trophy.
So many so called smaller clubs have achieved this in the last 20 years surely its not beyond us.30000 people are behind the club now even moderate success at this level will keep them there.

I think the run of games ave not been helpfull. im sure we will enjoy the run up to xmas, we are all learning each and every game.
the plus point is the fans , the support this season has been brilliant.

Prem all the way - the whole point of supporting a team is you want them to do as well as possible. I'd rather be playing in the Prem against Man City, Chelsea & Liverpool etc even if it means loosing more games.

its a strange one for me, I LOVE the championship. the whole, Saturday Tuesday, Saturday Tuesday I love. the idea that bottom of the table can beat top of the league, and the fans all believe so. the excitement of hunting down the play off spots and a chance at promotion..... compared to now, where its Saturday, Saturday, we don't expect to be anyone higher than about 10th spot. being beat every game is pretty much demoralising, but then again we do get to see a team like man city play some beautiful football and score 5. so we cant say its not entertaining, even though it is against us. but being able to say we are premier league. is fun. but the biggest issue is, we will never be a top 8 team. and really when you look at the league its the regular top 8 teams are the only ones that are safe in the league. everyone else is playing to avoid relegation and then trying to get as much as they can from the league

Agreed, but you can push on. Look at Leicester, Watford, Bournemouth, Burnley (last year), etc. The first season is vital, if we can stay up (and I think we can by the skin of our teeth !) then we can afford to take more financial risk by investing in players and structure.

It does take time but if a club averages 30,000+ then they can compete once they get to that 2nd season and all the money that brings.

I've said this here before. The answer is limiting the money which can be spent on players and perhaps something like the American football (grid iron ) rule that all wages are shared equally between the whole squad.
One consequence is the gradual disappearance of top players from our national teams because big clubs don't develop them and they don't get the breaks at the top level up against established foreign stars.

Our game will certainly wither if we don't act on this. They had to do it in Italy many many years ago and even in the United States where wage controls are very frowned upon to prevent exactly what you're describing here.

In ten games we have played the top six and lost to them all & as Warnock says they are beyond us at present, though we may still spring a surprise or two yet. But, the four other games have seen us lose only once, so I believe that we can be competitive at this level against the rest of the league and stay up in 17th place.

Totally agree, the championship is great and exciting but the excitement comes from trying to get promotion.
Unless we are winning the champions league, premiership, FA Cup and League Cup every season then I always want us to keep progressing, its not always easy and doesn't always happen but surely the point is to try.

it's though for me, i'd enjoy it more if we were better, but at the same time i want to see the players who got us up getting a fair crack of the whip. that said, we aren't parking the bus which makes it much more of a spectacle.

i love seeing us go to places like old trafford, stamford bridge. i always make a weekend out of the away games in london.
