Cardiff City have offered their full and unequivocal support to Leicester City as they wait to see if Saturday's scheduled Premier League clash in the Welsh capital will go ahead.

The Bluebirds will talk to their Leicester counterparts following the helicopter tragedy involving Foxes owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, which crashed outside the King Power Stadium after Saturday's game against West Ham.

Leicester are due to host Southampton in the League Cup on Tuesday night, but that tie seems certain to be called off.

Leicester Women's Championship clash with Manchester United, which was scheduled for the King Power Stadium on Sunday, was postponed, while the ladies reserve league match against Derby was also called off.

There is no suggestion yet that Saturday's Premier League match at Cardiff City Stadium will also have to be postponed, but the Bluebirds are ready to help out in any way they can.

Bluebirds chief executive Ken Choo said on Sunday morning: “Following Saturday evening’s terrible events at King Power Stadium, the thoughts and feelings of Leicester City FC are at the forefront of our minds.

"As such, we will be offering our support to Leicester City in any way necessary in respect of next weekend’s scheduled fixture.”

The matter is in Leicester's hands and they would need to speak to the Premier League and the Bluebirds about any possible postponement.

It is thought Cardiff's Malaysian owner Vincent Tan and Leicester's Thai billionaire Srivaddhanaprabha have been friends for a number of years. Tan will be shocked by the events which unfolded on Saturday night, as Cardiff were themselves making their way home from their own match at Liverpool.

Srivaddhanaprabha was on the helicopter at the time of the incident, according to reports from the BBC.

Witnesses said the helicopter seemed to spiral out of control moments after it set off at about 8.30pm on Saturday and plummeted into the car park. Police cars and emergency services rushed towards an area where flames were visible before the area was evacuated.

Srivaddhanaprabha leaves the stadium by his helicopter, which lands in the centre circle on the pitch, after every Leicester home game.

Witnesses said the helicopter took off from the pitch but lost control within a few seconds and crashed into the club's staff car park.

A Leicester City spokesman said: "We are assisting Leicestershire Police and the emergency services in dealing with a major incident at King Power Stadium. The club will issue a more detailed statement once further information has been established."
