Cardiff City star Harry Arter opens up on family tragedy that meant he had to leave Bournemouth

Saturday 27th October 2018

An emotional Harry Arter has opened up on the family tragedy that stays with him to this day and meant he had to leave Bournemouth behind.

The on-loan Cardiff City star sought pastures new in the summer, revealing "Bournemouth carried a lot of sadness" in a wide-ranging interview with The Sun.

That's after his partner Rachel gave birth to a stillborn child almost three years ago, an incident that shook both the family and the football world with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola one to offer his public condolences.

It's a tragic event Arter says he has learned to deal with, though he now feels rejuvenated playing under Neil Warnock at Cardiff and with a 19-month old daughter Raine.

Arter is now living in London and getting the train from Paddington to Cardiff - where he lives three days per week - and said he and Rachel simply wanted to move on from Bournemouth.

HARRY ARTER:

"We wanted to experience something different and living in London was something we always wanted to do," said Arter.

"Bournemouth carried a lot of sadness because it was where we spent our years before, during and after Renee.

"What happened is something that will never pass.

“The hardest thing is for the first year or so.

“Everyone remembers and then you feel alone with your feelings as everyone gets on with their lives.

“You learn to deal with it in the end, I guess.

“It is tough but I am really enjoying my life now, living in London and living every day as if it’s your last.

“I know that’s a saying everyone says and then forgets.

“But Rachel and I try to enjoy life to the full and try to give Raine as much as we can.”

Arter also revealed how his departure from the Cherries came about, a personal decision which opened the door for Warnock to swoop with a deadline day loan offer.

“I remember going to Eddie (Howe) in the January window and saying I felt it could be a good time for me to move on," he added.

“I think he was disappointed in my stance — he didn’t agree with it.

“But I think he understands now, and I hope he understands. It was nothing to do with him personally, it was where I was at in my life.

“Now, I’ve made some big changes in my life and ones I’m really enjoying.”

On Cardiff's survival battle and working under Warnock, the tough-tackling midfielder added: “I know he’s got a clear path and how he thinks we can stay up. As a group, we’ve got no inside worries about staying up.

“I’ve not seen a lack of confidence from any player.

“That could come with the pressure being off that the media and supporters other than Cardiff’s don’t expect us to stay up this year. That in itself can be a positive for us.

“The win over Fulham was probably the most I’ve enjoyed a win in a long time.

“It was probably the most I’ve ever wanted to win for a group of fans."

Sounds worryingly as if he might want to sign for a London club in the future , which is heartbreaking for Cardiff fans.
Many have seen him as the future iconic figure of this club - our Billy Bremner if we can progress as we hope.
Maybe the family won't actually like living in London once they've tried it though - who knows ? He's done enough for us already to make all Cardiff fans hope they are able to move on from their tragic experience and be truly happy again whatever happens.

I've said before that we should break the bank if necessary to sign him permanently , and not a single person has disagreed, so let's hope he and his wife might rethink where they want to live over the next few months.

Hopefully Camarasa will tell him how class it is.

Been really impressed with Arter’s work rate and commitment and it’s easy to see why he’s quickly become a fans favourite

However, let’s not get too carried away about “breaking the bank” to sign him.. he’s not that great, very poor disciplinary record and not too much end product in terms of goals and assists

He's not a striker and although it's true that he should try not to get booked so often that's also a sign of his commitment.
What he brings in terms of solid midfield quality is priceless though and that commitment is something you can't buy.

And how much did we miss that today?

Hopefully he's happy with the commute and wants to commit himself to the club for 2 years at the end of his loan.
Arter is right up my street in terms of a centre mid. No nonsense and always gives 110% - That is all I/we ask.

Hopefully we can stay up mate. Arter with a new CDM and Tom Cairney when Foolham go down wouldn't be too shabby
