Basically saying he needs to do more in training and in games he’s got to get the hunger back

Says it’s all just can’t be bothered..

How we could do with the player we once saw for half a season couple years back right now

This is the stark reason Cardiff City are not picking Kenneth Zohore

Friday 28th September 2018

Kenneth Zohore needs to do more in training if he is to force his way back into the first team picture at Cardiff City.

That's the frank assessment from boss Neil Warnock, who admits he's been unimpressed by the Dane, who's made just two Premier League starts this season, despite previous suggestions that he could play a key role in the Bluebirds' survival bid.

Warnock has shown a preference to the likes of Bobby Reid, Danny Ward and Gary Madine in recent weeks, and says Zohore needs to show more hunger if he's to win his place back in the team.

When quizzed on his sparing use of the striker.

NEIL WARNOCK:

Warnock said: "I’ve not seen a lot of him either!"

"That’s why he’s not been in the team.

"He’s got to do better in training every day. He’s got to get the hunger back that he’s had.

"There’s only one person who can do that. We can only do so much.

"It’s like the saying of taking a horse to water.

Cardiff have scored just three goals this season - a tally that's left them tied with Huddersfield Town as the league's worst in front of goal so far.

As a result, Warnock has refused to close the door on restoring Zohore to the starting line-up, providing he puts in the hard yards.

"He’s in the running [for Burnley]," he continued. "He’s in the 18, but he’s got to do more in training."

Warnock has clearly been paying plenty of attention to training in recent weeks, and has even hinted that there could be a surprise in his selection for the visit of Burnley on Sunday as a result.

"Training is important. One player has done well this week and hasen’t been in my thoughts before. So that’s the best way of catching the manager’s attention. Get on the training ground and give me a nudge."

I rem Warnock saying over a year ago he had to have harsh words with Zohore and Johore's attitude was wrong.

That £18m bid from Brighton seems a long long time ago!

As you say, really frustrating this one.

You'd think that Zohore would be busting a gut to prove himself at this level but seems to have reverted to the type of player he was in his first 12 months with us.

I still think if he could get his application right he has all the attributes to be a decent player at this level. He's quick, got a good shot and much improved in holding up play but he just doesn't seem to want to step up to the plate.

I hope it's something Warnock, and Zohore himself, can resolve otherwise I fear for his future. One thing is for sure, a fully firing Zohore would make staying up a whole lot easier :bluescarf:

In a way I agree. BUT - If he scores between 5-9 goals 2nd half of the season he'd probably have another decent bid in for him.
We let him go for next to nothing and it'll probably bite us in the arse eventually!!
Blokes still only 24 so he still has time to be a top player ( we can hope ) :ayatollah:

There must be more to this than meets the eye.

He's playing in the biggest league in the world, has had a baby with his missus, he should be loving life but yet he can't put a shift in, its disrespectful to Neil and his team mates

He may well be loving life, but being a new parent is probably taking get used to. Sleep patterns get disrupted and he is likely to be tired. Not making excuses for him as it is his job to score goals and he isn't delivering at the moment, but its not always straight forward when a child comes along as your time is not always your own anymore. Even greats like Roger Federer struggled for form when he first had kids, so Zohore is no different in that respect. Hopefully, a bit of psychology here by NW to gee him up for the weekend and he'll get the winner for us...

I don't buy the new baby excuse.
I had a baby last year but I didn't do any less in work due to tiredness..

Warnock is saying what a few of us have been saying for quite some time now. Often looks totally disinterested in the game, and I don't buy into all this stuff about poor service, a big unit etc., even though I know he can do no wrong in the eyes of some fans.

Nearly every time I have criticised him, the usual response is "we are not playing to his strengths", "he is a big unit who will take time to get back to full fitness" etc. Perhaps he should fit into the team rather than the other way around. Quite a few years back we had a goalkeeper who would just hoof the ball up in the general direction of a striker, who invariably would find a way of getting to the ball and flick it to another City player. We had a winger who would race down the touchline, cross the ball without looking up, and this striker would still get on the end of it, often hitting the back of the net. Our striker at that time once scored far more goals in one season than Zohore has managed in 9 years as a professional.

Sometimes you have to really want something bad enough to achieve your goals, and have to be prepared to bust a gut to get there. I am afraid that this is why I find Zohore so frustrating. He has undoubted ability, but rarely gives the impression that he has given his all when he comes off the pitch. Sounds as if his training sessions are much of the same. As I have constantly said for quite a long time, he is a striker who does not score goals, cannot head a ball and appears to lack effort.

I had a funny feeling we wouldn't be seeing zohore for a while after he choose Gary 'Goal Machine' Madine to come on at chelsea in front of him.

Not only is it a let down to manager and team but us fans to we have sang his name plenty enough perhaps he should be put in the canton end amongst the fans perhaps he might see the passion and it may rub off on him.

Don’t get me started on zohore, pit simply doesn’t want it and isn’t good enough end of story. Waste of place on the bench.

He’ll never be a top player because he hasn’t got the mental attitude. That’s something you can’t coach somebody. That hunger and will to win.

You could be right.....and let's hope so. Otherwise it smacks of unfairly deflecting criticism onto someone else. Last match the team was set up badly and could have lost 7 or 8 nil. That had nothing to do with Ken Zahore. :bluebird:

Hmm. I think i will support Brede Hangeland a and the Danish national manager on this one. Zahore is used in the wrong way, and need to play as a target with two or three player arround him. We can’t afford that with the way Warnock has the team set up as of late. He insist going for four at the back and four in the midfield. Wrong set up in my opinion.

As much as I can sympathize with the new baby some sleep through some have you screaming in your head. Thier not paid like us they could retire from on one contract these days. If he can't get sleep at home needs to look at temporary solutions the perks of the money should go with the sacrifices

Not making any excuses for zohore but when I had a kid it really affected my performances, i was in the top 3 players at the club but for some reason still to this day don't know what it was I just couldn't find form so maybe it's a psychological problem, but then again his form has been off way before his baby was born

I’m not surprised in the slightest. We can all see there is a very good player in Big Ken but he’s not consistent enough and too many games pass him by where he doesn’t seem to even be putting in the expected effort. If he had the right attitude and could motivate himself he could be a decent premier league striker.
