I just wonder if people go to these things any more. I must admit I've never been to a testimonial in my life and have no interest in nor intention of doing so. I like competitive matches myself.

That was the game.
I remember the team sheet in the programme not matching any of the United players and the numbers were all wrong. I remember one player standing out although didn't know him at the time I'm sure it turned out to be Wez Brown.

Yeah there was a decent crowd, the Grange End was open I stood on there for it, we had a few decent (tests) back then, Villa for Dale, think there was only about 4k there though mid-week and Spurs for Jason Perry (I took a penalty at half time on the pitch and hit the Canton Roof)

They are from a bygone era

Whitts along with Dave Bennett are my favourite players, but i guess Whitts is a millionaire so doesn't need the tax free gift of yesteryear.

However, i would like him paraded around the ground before kick off in a high profile game so the fans can give the chant "he does what he wants" one more rendition.

Only testimonial match I’ve been to was Cwmbran Town Vs Man Utd select 11 featuring Dennis Irwin, and one Ryan Giggs.... Beckham, Scholes and Gary Neville also played but they were still acadamey players, was back in 1994 between the World Cup and the start of the season, it was for the ref from Pontypool who died in the early 90’s and was played at Cwmbran Stadium

bygone era regarding a final payday yes..

most players give proceeds to charity these days..

but I still think it a honour to be awarded a testimonial
