My opinion “ RYAN GIGGS “

Fri Sep 07, 2018 1:10 am

What are everyone’s thoughts on Ryan Giggs as the Wales manager so far?

Personally, I didn’t want him to get the job and was disappointed when he did. For obvious reasons. Such as him not turning up for friendlies as a player. I was even more disappointed in him when he referred to England as “we” on TV during the World Cup. There was also the issue that he had little experience in management apart from managing Man Utd for a few matches when they had nothing to play for.

But, tonight was fantastic. I was at work all night so didn’t get to watch the match live, and recorded it instead. Just watched it and have to say that’s one of the best Wales performances in recent years.

If we continue to play that type of free-flowing, attacking football then this will be a very exciting era for our national football team. Absolutely brilliant to see so many youngsters, not only shine, but to look more than capable on the international stage.

This was the first real test for Giggs and, in my opinion, he passed with flying colours.

Obviously some great performances tonight, but Giggs does deserve credit.

I think hes doing well but its going to take him a long time to win the fans over.

I also think he is very lucky as he has probably inherited the best young squad we have ever had.

The amount of youngsters coming through is fantastic.

You are as good as your last game.

I've heard a lot about the youngsters we have coming through but seen no evidence of it until last night. Credit must be given to Giggs for giving them the chance. We have to be real here though and say that was a weak Irish side. Sunday will be a sterner test against Denmarks big boys. Saying that I'm comfortable we will win against the Danish comfortable.

He can only do good things for Wales.
Last night was an amazing display
The future looks bright and a real test to come in Denmark.

People keep saying about Ryan not turning up for the Wales frendlies. From what I can remember neither did the fans.

The Danes will be a massive test as they're a very good team, if we beat them I'd say we're as good as any team in Europe.

He was always the obvious choice really, couldn't understand the critism previously. Time will tell how he will get on but good to see a good result and the young lads being brought through.

I felt I was in the minority when I was excited about RG being appointed manager of Wales.. He would have learnt so much from his time at Man Utd under Alex Ferguson & playing alongside such great players as Cantona , Beckham etc I hope the fans start to unite and get behind him starting with a packed crowd at the principality stadium .for the match v Spain . The team deserve that kind of support after last niights performance so hope they put their petty grievances aside e.g. It's the home of our rugby team and I can't forgive RG for not turning up at friendlies etc and support out boys ..They so deserve it !! ...

I think he's introduced the modern, high energy, fluid football of Klopp, Guardiola, etc. and has to be given credit for that.

By changing the system he's also made it less painful if ever Bale is absent. Under Coleman the sole plan was to defend with discipline, sit deep and then get it to Bale. It worked brilliantly but came back to haunt us when we played Ireland last year without Bale when the lack of plan B was palpable.

This is early days but even in China there were signs that things were changing and, in my view, for the better. If we carry on in this manner then things are looking very rosy for the future.

By the way, perhaps Warnock could offer Ampidou a 6 month loan from January !! He's some player already  :bluescarf:

Though I enjoyed the match I'm not getting carried away.I thought the Irish were poor last night and offered little or nothing. As others have said sterner examinations awaits and I still think Williams has had his day.

Great performance but Denmark won't be a test. Theyre playing an amateur team, as their first team is on strike.

Having seen what he could do in his first 4 matches as player/manager at OT after Moyes was sacked in 2014 he uses the same philosophy as SAF, bring the youngsters through and give them a chance. Last night was exciting to watch from start to finish, even after Bale went off the team still looked confident enough to attack without him, something they didn’t look comfortable doing towards the end under Coleman. Don’t get me wrong coleman was a fantastic manager for us and I’m not knocking him one bit, just feel the play became stale/stagnant and relied too much on Ramsey and Bale (especially Bale).

I’m looking forward to Sunday as that will be a good test for us but even more so looking forward to see what we can produce against Spain in october

to Thomas C ..Another great managerial debut was when Wales beat England at Wrexham in 1980 ... Headline the following day .." The prince of Wales and his name is England " ..... That was Mike England ... we also won 4-1 that day

cor blimey! 2nd best Welsh managerial debut then  Good on Giggsy, he's going to attack teams and as other posters alluded to, Coleman's tactics were sussed out by others.

he has the potential to be an excellent manager. he has the inside track on all the top methods, and he commands instant respect, especially among the young players.

that's why i thought he should be the fallback option if we didnt get pulis. laughable really to remember that most people on here favoured bellamy over him.

Why the downer on Giggs anyway...

So he didn't play all the friendlies and I remember being told by a member of the management he wasn't injured when he missed a friendly, don't you think others do the same... Bale maybe.

He is 17th on the all time list for Welsh caps, 64 caps which is equivalent to nearly 1 & 3/4 premier league seasons????

He had the option to play for England... He chose Wales (after 1 game for English school boys where his head must have been turned)

He carried a poor team on times... if Bale was the only decent player we had do you think he'd turn up to play Albania in a friendly a week before "el classico". Giggs managed his time and body and played until he was 40ish.

Why the downer?

How anyone would have wanted Bellamy over Giggs is bizarre at best

Ryan Giggs has never had the option to play for England.

He also played more then one game for England School Boys. The rules at school boy level are that you play for the country that you go to school in.

He was born in Cardiff and his family is welsh no chance of playing for England.

So the player everybody loves to hate is more welsh then a lot of our Euro squad.

Whatever your feelings about Giggs in the past, it should be kicked firmly into touch. He has begun a new era and has made a good start, having said that, one swallow does not make a summer and I wish him good luck but still reserve judgement until after four or five games.

Thank You

Thank You very much

Play games in North Wales they cry, Wales 2-New Zealand 2, attendance 7,819 and Giggs actually played  not even a sell out.

Wales vs Liechtenstein, Racecourse, Giggs plays, no sell out.

Wales vs Bulgaria at the Liberty Stadium, Friendly, Giggs plays, attendance, 8,200

Wales vs Paraguay, Millenium Stadium on St Davids Days 2006, Giggs plays, attendance, 12,324

Its like watching Cardiff in the 90's, 2-3,000 crowds for some games yet 20,000 will tell you they were there.

Some people need to give their heads a shake and stop re-writing history.
