Neil Warnock reveals the tweaks behind Cardiff City's vastly improved goal threat against Arsenal
The Bluebirds netted their first league goals of the season against the Gunners but were unable to hold on for a point
Sunday 2 SEP 2018
Neil Warnock revealed the quality of Arsenal's players was the reason behind his decision to start with Bobby Reid and Danny Ward against the Gunners.
Cardiff City went into the match without a league goal to their name having drawn with Newcastle and Huddersfield following their opening day defeat to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
But the Bluebirds scored their first league goals of the 2018/19 season against Unai Emery's side but still couldn't hold on for a point as they went into the international break on the back of a 3-2 defeat.
After the match, the Yorkshireman revealed he told his players the team lineup for the clash with the Gunners straight after the stalemate with Huddersfield, adding that his team worked on the system in midweek to ensure they had a greater goal threat against Arsenal.
NEIL WARNOCK:
"I told them the team last weekend," revealed Warnock.
"I just thought this was the best was forward really. We've tried it with one up front in the Championship but at this level the players are too good and we'd never see the ball or create anything so we tried the system out in midweek.
"I thought Victor (Camarasa) was super aswell, and i thought their full-backs were as poor as they've been this season when you see how they've done so far.
"I just want us to compete and to score goals. The league is such that I don't think anybody is not beatable”
"A lot of people expected us to park the bus and score no goals, but we had some great chances today.”
"I can’t remember how many times I put my head in my hands today."
And Warnock admits his side will have significant battles on their hands once again when they face Chelsea and champions Man City after the international break, adding that he's determined to enjoy his time in the Premier League.
"We won’t see much of the ball in the next two games," he added.
