“ Peter Whittingham “

Peter Whittingham released
Whitts has had his Blackburn contract terminated.
Personally I thought Whitts last few years have been poor and we were right to release him as well, maybe even a year earlier.

No doubt we released him at the right time. Great servant for us though.

As said on a different Whits thread. Bring him back as a set piece coach, even as a temp move until he find future employment.
All the very best Peter, deserved a testimonial from city, esp after his wonder goal against ex prem champs Leicester City. :ayatollah:

I don't think any modern player who has played in the championship deserves a testimonial. If they have had a reasonably long career and managed there money well they should retire at least a millionaire if not a multi millionaire. The best servant to the club in the modern era though.

He deserves a testimonial with profits going to charity :bluescarf:

Fantastic player and so many great goals for us.
The one at Middlesborough in the cup for me was outstanding.

Never really understood the he was past it in his last few seasons with us.. especially his last one where he contributed to the most goals out of the whole squad with 7 goals and 7 assists, was our third top goal scorer..

You can say his move to Blackburn proved that but his last season with us he contributed to 23.33% of our goals..

It's all to easy to say he was past it and we should have got rid of him a year earlier but I believe that's is so unfair. I think Whitts left because NW was planning ahead a knew that Whitts would struggle to play within the style which he had planned for last season, and given what happened who could argue with that. But does any of that mean that Whitts was passed it?

Well last season during October / November Blackburn Rovers won 6 games on the trot, their best winning run of last season and Whitts played in everyone of those games. His season then went wrong because of a bad calf injury which took months to heal and after that with Blackburn doing so well he struggled to break back into the team.

It's a cliche but form is temporary and class is permanent and that's exactly what Whitts is CLASS. Best of luck for the futre Whitts and lets hope you get a new club very soon.

He left because Warnock offered him a 1yr contract and he wanted 2. He just wanted to play but although I'm a massive fan of Whitts I believe we sold him at the right time.
Things haven't worked out at Blackburn so I hope he can get fixed up at a new club if that's what he wants.
He does what he wants anyway!
