How to beat Arsenal? 5-3-2 ...

Thu Aug 30, 2018 2:46 pm

For me 5-3-2. Arsenals new "philosophy” of playing out from the back has yet to be successful! Sounds easier said than done but when they play out from the back I would get the 2 "strickers" to stick to there centre backs and my most attacking midfielder on there deep lying midfielder who will drop in between the defence. IF Arsenal are forced to play a long ball a back three containing Morrison & Bamba would you like to think be comfortable dealing with a long ball.

May sound pie in the sky but from me Arsenal defensively are there to be taken if we are brave enough Sunday.

Cech if he plays is not comfortable playing out from the back. Force him to play it long

Mustafi and Papastatopoplus - How often have these guys played against a front 2? For me the pace of Murphy/Reid/Harris you could play the long back over them.

Guendouzi - 19 years old vastly inexperienced with Mustafi and Papastatopoplus behind him for me there's a huge floor and weak point to take advantage off IF we are brave enough to get at them,

Ethridge , Richards( RWB ) , Peltier , Morrison , Bamba , Bennet ( LWB ) , Arthur , Ralls , Camarasa , Zohore , Murphy

Subs

Smithies
Cummingham
Manga
Harris
Patterson
Ward
Madine

Gone for Peltier over Manga as he offers pace to assist Morrison and Bamba when we get stretched by Arsenal.

A 3 man midfield of Arthur , Ralls & Camarasa ( not the worst midfield City have had over the years? ) with "wing backs" on the outside of them. Ralls/Arthur the play makers or the deeper lying midfielders.

Camarasa pushing on to assist the front 2

My front 2 I have gone back in time with small man , big man. In all honesty for me its between Zohore/Madine for the 1 role. I am torn ...Madine holds the ball up far better hands down but IF 1 of them where to get an opportunity in from of goal I would prefer Zohore every day of the week.

The other front guy I would not necessarily be a traditional forward ( Reid , Murphy or Harris could do this?? ). I would like someone who will run there guts out for 60/65 minutes before being replaced like for like to do the donkey work for the other front man. Not the nicest phrase but you get what I mean. Chase the ball down EVERY time Arsenal start knocking it around the back , hassle the defence be a nuisance. Every ball we play direct over the top give that Arsenal defence something they are not equipped for ..... a foot race.

For me,5-3-2 is the way to play the big boys,Having Arter and Camarasa with Ralls we might get away with it,problem is Murphy would have to be benched,I would like to see Reid up front with either Zahore or Ward,if its not working then bring on Murphy and try change the dynamics. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Some managers know how to get the best out of 5 at the back and some don't. Unfortunately when Warnock has tried it we have failed and looked poor. Big no for me.

I have to agree ,I remember it not working too well but I would like to give it another go , we have had bad days on more conventional formulas, just my opinion but I still think ideally it is the right way against the bigger clubs.

Arsenal will make a long journey to Wales to take on Cardiff City at the Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday following their hard-fought 3-1 win over West Ham United in the London derby last weekend. The Gunners have had a mediocre start to their league campaign after being beaten by Manchester City and Chelsea before their victory in the previous gameweek.

Unai Emery needs to get a run of favourable results in the coming weeks to keep pace with the Premier League’s big boys in the league standings. However, they will come across a Bluebirds side desperate for their first victory of the season.

The Gunners could opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation, but Mesut Ozil might be excluded from the match-day squad once again after failing to contribute during the first two league matches of this campaign.

We did use it against Norwich and we dropped it with in 15/20 minitues.

How ever I thought Connely had a shocker ( his 1st game in a long time in fair ness ) ,Manga looked out of sorts. Cunningham on a man marking job I don’t get what that was about with all respect to Norwich. Damour offerer very little in midfield also.

But if there’s a game to try new things then the league cup is he place to experiment. Jazz on the right wing when we went 4-4-2 looked to me he could play wing back comfortably in a back 5. Harris like Murphy has such raw pace to trouble defenders ( just there final product slightly worries me ) Madine held the ball up well as has done for us so although the Norwich game was hugely underwhelming there were a few individual performances to take a positive from I feel

At any level of professional football surely as a team you have to be able to adapt to different situations. In fairness to Warknock he is very adapt. Patterson last season being the star example. He gets the best out of “average joes” as we seen with promotion last year. I’m sure with the correct personal Neil would get the best out of a 5-3-2.

See now I think the opposite, I think we have the players to play a 5-3-2 but I don't think Warnock knows how to set them up, he is very strict with what he wants players to do and whatever his instructions they don't work.

If we play five at the back we will lose. We aren’t good enough at it.
