Especially against Arsenal FFS!

Why can't Murphy play in a free role just behind the striker? We have no other good enough wingers and Murphy is our biggest attacking threat. Get Murphy more involved with a free role dropping into pockets of space between their midfield and defence so he can get on the ball more and run at them I say!

Why can't Murphy play in a free role just behind the striker? We have no other good enough wingers and Murphy is our biggest attacking threat. Get Murphy more involved with a free role dropping into pockets of space between their midfield and defence so he can get on the ball more and run at them I say!

Your going to be bitterly disappointed if you think our forwards are going to have enough of the ball to be able to play in a free role effectively.

70% of the time Sunday we are going to be defending and that’s going to have to include Murphy. So any idea of him being able to just wander around the pitch looking for pockets of space is just you living in a dream land.

That Arsenal team has absolutely ridiculous amounts of pace so even when we do attack we can’t just have players wandering about because Aubameyang will smoke all our defenders even with a five yard head start and when he’s through on goal he won’t miss.

Spot on regarding free roles against Arsenal
The better option in that case would be to use an attacking midfielder in Reid who's known for his hard work and closing down. Also a better goal threat going on last season.
