MY VIEW: POOR CARDIFF PERFORMANCE RESULTED IN THEM GOING OUT

My View/Opinion

POOR CARDIFF PERFORMANCE RESULTED IN THEM GOING OUT OF THE CUP.

Many will say good riddance, I totally disagree, wins breed confidence in the squad and its great for the rest of the squad to get good game time.

For me whats worrying yet again is City upfront and yes we played a weak side, but so did Championship club Norwich and we were at home.

Norwich were deservedly in front at half-time, although the Bluebirds did look a bit more threatening as the half wore on.

Yes when City got a goal back in the last 20mins, Cardiff did finally go for it and looked very lively but way to late.

The Canaries’ head coach made a total of 10 changes to the line up that succumbed to Leeds at the weekend, a few young players as well.

Cardiff will play on Sunday at home to Arsenal before a 33,000 passionate home City crowd, Lets hope City can finally get a Premier goal and even a win :bluebird: :bluebird:

CARDIFF CITY 1 NORWICH CITY 3
Crowd 6,953
Away Support 308
H/T 0-1

Cardiff City:
Smithies; Richards, Peltier, Manga, Connolly, Cunningham; Camarasa, Damour; Reid, Harris, Madine

Subs:Brian Murphy Joe Bennett Cameron Coxe Ciaron Brown Callum Paterson Danny Ward Kenneth Zohore

Norwich attacked Cardiff from the start, with Srbenny getting Cardiff goalie Smithie to make a number of saves.

In the 25th min - Norwich striker Srbeny with an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net. (0-1)

In the 43rd min City were Close! Lovely free kick from Gary Madine, up and over the wall, but McGovern tipped it wide.

H/T 0-1

Cardiff started brighlty , but faded.

In the 59th min Cardiff made a double change Gary Madine and Jazz Richards were replaced by Danny Ward & Callum Paterson,

4mins later Stiepermann beat his man and chipped the ball to the back post where Srbeny headed it in 0-2

69th min a left footed curling effort from Max Aarons found the net 0-3

71st min Camarasa was replaced by Zohore

Bruno Manga headed a corner into the back of the net 1-3 :bluebird:

82nd min Reid took a free kick for Cardiff from 25 yards which hit the Norwich wall and deflected through to hit the post.

in the 86th min Ward was denied by the fingertips of McGovern

F/T 1-3

I agree with you tonight Annis.

Sounds like a terrible performance against a team that haven’t had a great start to the season.

Some will say they don’t care because it’s the League Cup and we should focus on survival, but the team we played were good enough to win that match. Like you say, confidence comes from wins - in whatever competition.

Very disappointing night.

Awful result but in the grand scheme of things it's a good result. Now let's move on and beat those powder puffs Arsenal :old: :ayatollah:

If these are the players to step upto the first team we are in big trouble we've been hammered by a poor championship team who have made 10 changes Awful .

this does not bode well....players coming in to make a statement for inclusion...failed... shows how weak the squad is...Norwich played a weakened side and we flunked ....goal threat is negligible.....pooor

Woe betide the 1st team suffer any more injuries, our squad has no real depth at all,how connolly beat pilkinton to a place I the 25 I really don't know  we had to rely on a defender to get our first competetive goal ffs :banghead: ,but onwards and upwards, bring on the gunners :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

Anyone surprised at tonight has either only recently become a fan, or have a short memory. We have done this on a regular basis throughout the years. Did'nt see the game as I am not particularly interested in this cup, and like most people, this would have no real appeal to me until the quarter final stage. Not bothered in the slightest that we are out, we have enough of a struggle on our hands without the distractions of a reserve team cup competition. A defeat was always on the cards, and I doubt if Warnock will lose much sleep tonight.

Sorry Steve

I haven t recently become a fan i have supported city since 1966...i agree this is the norm...but we are supposed to have a better squad than recent years... Norwich have been dire this season so far ..shipping goals..yet their weakened side beat our second string with ease... this does nothing for building confidence when we should be looking to for it..
After the poor start we have had in front of goal this was a perfect game against a weakened Norwich team to put that right and we failed miserably

Manga was so poor for both goals....i dread what will happen saturday :bluescarf:

I know some fans will be disappointed, but you will know better than most that we have done this in both English cup competitions on a regular basis throughout our history. It has rarely had any affect on how we went on to perform in the league, and with our obvious lack of strength in depth, can we really afford many more injuries than we already have. I honestly don't think the distractions of a cup run would benefit us this season, as Burnley may well find to their cost if they hang around in Europe for any length of time.

ain't having this. Not really a fair comparison half baked teams playing against each other to traveling all of Europe, Asia or perhaps Israel

Well some of those players won’t likely get a game now until new year I,e FA Cup or get moved on unless we get major injuries !
I think it is the manner in which we lost that concerns the fans ! Wrap it up whatever way you want we need a win Sunday

Wolves, Fulham won... they won because they are set up to play expansive attack minded football and guess what, they're reserve players enjoyed the evening.

Paul, I went down with expectation and also felt let down by the overall performance from City

Not what I expected from our team :(

Re: MY VIEW: POOR CARDIFF PERFORMANCE RESULTED IN THEM GOING

Tue Aug 28, 2018 9:39 pm

The only one who looked capable of stepping up to the first team was Ward. We should have been winning this whatever team we put out, once apain some very poor finishing (Reid Harris Patterson).
I know it must hard playing in front of a piss poor crowd but you would think a number of players would be busting a gut to push for a first team chance and play prem football.

Re: MY VIEW: POOR CARDIFF PERFORMANCE RESULTED IN THEM GOING

Tue Aug 28, 2018 9:40 pm

Not many made a case for stepping up into the first team this evening.
So many were disappointing its easier to say who played well.
Ward was really the only bright spark.
Anyone looking for Madine to step up instead of Zohore , well not for me.
Kads was also very poor considering he now should be looking to replace NML.

While I had forecast Norwich to win this evening, I think we may well have beaten Exeter had we drawn them instead of Norwich. I agree though, winning at Sheff Wed is a decent result.

Re: MY VIEW: POOR CARDIFF PERFORMANCE RESULTED IN THEM GOING

Tue Aug 28, 2018 9:45 pm

People say it's just a cup game and a distraction but only a couple of this side would play in premiership on Sunday so was great opportunity to try something different with no risk, instead seems like same problems as 1st team which is worrying for rest of season. :old:

Re: MY VIEW: POOR CARDIFF PERFORMANCE RESULTED IN THEM GOING

Tue Aug 28, 2018 9:46 pm

I can't believe the reaction.
IMO we had three players on the pitch who are top end championship or lower prem... Bruno, Reid and Camarassa. Three who are championship Cunningham, Peltier, Smithies.
Three who won't or can't (anymore) make it at championship level Connolly, Damour and Harris,
One in Richards who looked unfit and out of position and Madine who just needs to end this nightmare.

We relied last season on massive pace on the flanks, we had none tonight and set plays....Camarassa knocked in some decent balls tonight and Reids wasn't bad either.

We know what we are and we had no injuries to 1st teamers.

How the hell Harris has got a slot over Pilkington does me, he showed so little pace and desire it concerned me. He needs to move on to a L1 club and form a career.

Re: MY VIEW: POOR CARDIFF PERFORMANCE RESULTED IN THEM GOING

Tue Aug 28, 2018 9:49 pm

I went this evening with little expectation of winning because experience has taught me we rarely take cup matches seriously, this despite NW comments on Saturday that when he picked the team for this game he thought it was better than the team he took over.

So many times over the years I've seen city capitulate in games like this but tonight was a real eye opener because it was such a dreadful performance. I thought Madine was totally ineffective and going forward a see little reason to even have him on the bench, in fact I'd ship him out on loan to whoever will take him and promote Pilkington into our 25 man squad. Damour disappointed me as well and will surely not get anywhere near the first team again this season. Manga, Connolly and Richards were also disappointing.

Cunningham looked ok but is no threat to Bennett and neither is Smithies to Etheridge. We know we have a player in Bobby Reid but he is struggling to make an impact, is that something to do with the way NW sets the team up to play I don't know.

One thing is certain with the return of Etheridge, Morrison, Bamba, Ralls, Arter and Murphy we will be a stronger unit on Sunday but I see a very long season ahead of us.

That was embarrassing. None of the starting 11 could complain if they don't get a game all season. From his cameo please give Danny Ward a start on Sunday at least he looked hungry and got involvef

I should also hold fire in the praise of Fulham result. which hasn't happened (yet) :banghead:

Very poor, I thought tonight was a chance for a few players to make a claim for a starting spot Sunday, Madine, Richards(playing out of position I know) Harris, Cunningham, Damour and even Smithies were all disappointing considering it was a chance to play their way into such a big game. Not sure where Bobby Reid fits into our system.

I’d go with

Etheridge

Manga
Bamba
Morrison
Bennett

Ralls
Arter

Murphy
Reid
Ward

Zohore

A particularly large elephant in the room is our total lack of strength in depth. We are extremely short on quality even with everyone fit. How on earth are we going to cope with injuries and suspensions? Madine, Connolly, Harris are barely Championship level being kind. I'm sorry, but I think Tan and Warnock really need to question their policy of refusing to spend even a modicum of decent money.

Re: MY VIEW: POOR CARDIFF PERFORMANCE RESULTED IN THEM GOING

I know there are a few loons on here who actually think Madine could do a job for us in the premier tonight's performance by him should hopefully put an end to that nonsense. You have to wonder what Warnock said to them before the match because if we were actually trying to win it that is really worrying.

And apparently getting flogged week in week out gives you a solid platform to 'bounce back' to premiership football in the Championship. I hear it all
the time on here. Must be true
