Tue Aug 28, 2018 8:50 am

UPDATED TERRY PHILLIPS HAS JUST POSTED

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, the Bluebirds winger injured at Huddersfield, could be out for six months.

That is a major blow for the player and Cardiff City after scans showed the damage sustained in a collision with Huddersfield’s goalkeeper.

Mendez-Laing is in a leg brace and has damaged ligaments in his left knee. He will be out for between three and six months.

I was told early this morning:

Mendez-laing was with the medic yesterday. he had a scan. with the physio. he is in a leg brace and has damaged the posterior ligaments in his leg knee. hes in a bad way. going to be out for min 3 months but could be up to 6 months.

Feel sorry for the lad as hes worked so hard over the summer to get fit, really putting a shift in and he's embraced his chance in the squad.

All the best on your recovery Nathaniel.

Lets see who steps up to the plate in his absence, maybe Kadeem

Obviously bad news but does this open up a chance to deselect him from the provisional 25 PL squad and replace him with either another squad player (Pilks?) or sign a free agent striker?

Great shout but I doubt there will be much out there that will improve the squad. Players out of the 25 would probably be better.

If I’m honest I’m not that bothered. He has pace and that’s it. Very little end product. He wouldn’t have had a lot of impact in the Prem in my opinion.

I think we can get in an Emergency Loan so I would say yes.

I am an NML fan but I also have to acknowledge his limitations. At full steam I can't think of a full back who could keep up with him but unfortunately you are right the end product is pretty sparse.

The only change that the PL will entertain is if we have a goalkeeper crisis but other than that squads can only be changed during transfer windows. So our squad has now been reduced to 24 until NML returns or the January transfer window opens.

Terrible news for all concerned but I hope NML makes a full and speedy recovery.

Yeah I like him too when he’s running full whack but his first touch is poor, his second touch not much better. He’s a confidence player and his confidence goes down too much. Much like Zohore but Zohore is a better footballer.

We can’t get an emergency loan in this instance.

You are wrong here, we can add to the 24 to take it back to the 25. why do you think that the premier league do not announce the final squad until September 1st.?

Surely he's still in our 25, injured or not? Unless he goes to another club or we terminate his contract?

If he is out with a long term injury until January then he can be taken out of the 25 and replaced! these are the exceptional circumstances that the premier league refer to in their rule book!

Re: Breaking: “ Not good news on Cardiff City player “

Tue Aug 28, 2018 10:25 am

Squads have been submitted to the Premier League. I’m pretty sure no changes can be made until January even within our current squad.

Even if we had named 24 players we could not name anymore players.

Exceptional circumstances is for GK only.

Time for Kadeem Harris to step up

Or Bobby Reid.

Or Paterson right mid. Or Jazz Richards. Or Ward left wing and Murphy right.

Hence why not exceptional circumstances.

Why do you think that the 25 man squad is not announced until Sept 1st., its because if any premier club gets offers for their 25 man squad, then they CAN replace them, imagine if Chelsea sold Hazzard Willam, and an other to real madrid, before 31st August, do you think that they will go until January with 22 players ? The goalkeeping situation is a given, that is not the exceptional circumstances that the premier league refer to.

You are missing the point, it is not that we have players available to step in, it is that the squad has been reduced!

Re: Breaking: “ Not good news on Cardiff City player “

Tue Aug 28, 2018 10:46 am

The way I understand it is, that in the situation we are now in we can amend the 25 by dropping NML due to his injury and replace with a player who is out of contract with any other club, we have until the 31st of August to do this.

There is a loop hole in this, where a player effectively buys himself out of his contract, we could then reimburse the player (unofficially) in his signing on fee.

As I said this is my understanding and happy to be told otherwise.

That’s just shit luck. You are the one missing the point.

Google it. It’s quite clear. No extra players can be signed and/or registered until the next transfer window in January.

If there was the option to just get in a new player then Man City would have. Even they were told it wasn’t exceptional circumstances because they had a couple of reserve keepers albeit youngsters.

25 man squad to a 24 man squad is not exceptional.

They can’t replace them until January. Squads have been submitted the day after the transfer deadline.

I was under the impression players could be replaced within the wider squads outside the 25 man squads but even that appears to not be the case.

25 man squad is actually bigger anyway. None of our youngsters count in the 25 man squad.

I thought that but squads have been submitted the day after the transfer deadline expired.

Exceptional circumstances are being left with one fit keeper I believe.

For goodness sake of course the squad has to be submitted the day after the window closes but, it is NOT released until September 1st. Can you tell me why it is not released until then?
NO! well I'll tell you, it's because players from that squad may be sold before the window for the rest of Europe closes, and it allows the teams to replace those players, even it is is from players that are already on their books.
Now if you cannot understand that and you cannot do your own google then I cannot make it any clearer than I have

Its a big blow if we are losing him for that amount of time for me Paterson doesn't cut it in a wide position and neither would Pilks if moved up to the 25. Reid has potentially but not sure he has the strength. We really need Kadeem Harris so step it up over the next few months
