Vincent Tan: “ Cardiff City have the players to survive”

26 August 2018

BBC

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has the players and the team spirit to survive in the Premier League, insists owner Vincent Tan.

The Malaysian businessman saw Cardiff's goalless draw at Huddersfield, a rare appearance from him at an away fixture.

The Bluebirds made seven summer signings, the largest fees being spent on Josh Murphy and Bobby Reid.

"I think last season Neil proved the bookies and pundits wrong so I believe we have a good chance," said Tan.

"We believe we have enough good players to stay in the league and we have the team spirit.

"Four years ago I did not really get along with the manager [Malky Mackay], but me and Neil work together and speak often."

The Bluebirds now face a difficult run of fixtures, which includes games against champions Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite the odds being against them, Tan remains hopeful that the Bluebirds can go one better than last time they were promoted to the Premier League and remain there.

"It's exciting, I'm very happy and everyone is to be back in the Premier League," added Tan.

"We pray we will stay in the league for the while, it's different this time.

"The stadium is packed, everyone is in a great mood and we hope to be there for a long time."

'Enjoy' it, urges Warnock

Cardiff must start taking chances - Warnock

Warnock says the Bluebirds must "go and enjoy" the run of games against big-name opposition that begins with the Gunners heading to Cardiff on Sunday, 2 September.

No quality sorry Vinny, we won’t be able to play against 10 men every week

I get very irritated hearing this stuff about " quality" . You know what - we've got a lot of good professional footballers who work together as a team and improve all the time and I appreciate how much theyve already achieved as much as I hope they'll go on to achieve a great deal more.
They have qualities which I appreciate a lot more than I do those of primadonnas who'd happily play for the Adolf Hitler X1 if the money was right and ponce about the place as if they're more important than mortal people.

Don't want to be nasty, but anyone who prefers that sort of team should start supporting Manchester City or Real Madrid instead. Don't put our players down after all they do or the owner who's spent an awful lot of his own money to help them do it - it's not insignificant and if it's not good enough for you I think you've got insatiable expectations and I don't know what would be good enough to make you appreciate the Club

We spent recklessly last time and by a miracle we have now recovered financially.
Anyone expecting us to compete outside of the bottom 6 is on cloud cuckoo land.
Yes it's been a frustrating few games but we have a fantastic team ethic which gives us a fighting chance.
Stick together, lower expectations and we may just may surprise a few people.
Burnley went down in the first season under Dyche and bounced back stronger.
3 games gone let's not panic and enjoy the season.

Seems fair, along the same lines as what warnock is saying about team spirit. I think we need to get more from the players we have, at the moment we are to defensive.

Good post and although I know lack of goals is not good positives one defeat and that was away from home
And two clean sheets out of three and playing against 10 men is not always easy but most of all the amazing team spirit :bluescarf:

We have started to recover financially because Tan has in effect written off millions of his own money. Like you say, we gambled last time we were here, and it backfired spectacularly. Back in the Championship with massive debts was the result of spending big and bringing in some big time Charlies when we last visited this division. Only a fool would make the same mistake a second time, and say what you like about Tan, he is nobody's fool.

He is correct. We have enough quality to survive.

Defence more than held their own so far.
Midfield not doing too badly.
Attack, improvement needed in the finishing department. Movement and creativity is pretty much there.

Great reply  and bang on the money, in fact quite a few positive and common sense replies on this thread. :ayatollah:

I think it's a great post also. Quality is such an abused word when talking about football players and often it is used because the pundit/poster has nothing else to say.
