Bolton Wanderers set to miss out on deal to bring former star back to the club

Thursday 23rd August 2018

Reliable football journalist Alan Nixon reports that Bolton Wanderers manager Phil Parkinson has ruled out a move for Gary Madine.

Madine is currently at Cardiff City, where he is not the first-choice striker, and Bolton might have hoped for a reunion.

The 27-year-old was spotted at the Macron Stadium last night, watching on as Bolton beat Birmingham City 1-0.

However, that deal now looks unlikely. Speaking on Twitter, Nixon said: “BOLTON. No Madine return. Says boss.”

Madine joined the Trotters on a free transfer in summer 2015 and scored 26 goals in two-and-a-half seasons with the club.

Last season, he scored 10 goals in 29 games for Bolton to lead the charge in their survival bid but then joined promotion chasing Cardiff in January.

Madine failed to score in 13 games for the Bluebirds, despite them winning promotion, and has only played two minutes this season.

The Verdict

Madine arguably enjoyed the best spell of his career at Bolton and I’m sure he would love to return.

Moving away was a mistake on a personal level, because he has less chances at Cardiff and he was the star man at Bolton.

The physical centre-forward would have been an excellent capture, so this will come as disappointing news to Bolton fans.

He still has a part to play for us. Fingers crossed he comes good. I'm sure he would've scored one of those headed chances Vs Newcastle, at least got it on target...

He has a big part to play for us this season especially if Zohore fails to get goals and create chances for others.

Thought now would be the time to throw him in if zohore is not upto speed with fitness etc orherwise he will not get a game unless zahore gets injured.

Just my opinion,I think he could come good now we have a better stronger midfield,I think he will get better service .

Maybe Pilkington will replace Madine in 25 man squad.
To be honest, I think Pilkington's skills are far more suited to the Premier League than Madine.

Madine will come good

If this is true and there was a chance he could be leaving what the hell was he doing in the 25? I was worried that we didn't sign another striker but thought that Warnock had faith in Madine. If he goes out on loan now it has the hallmark of Tan cost cutting.

Why would we get rid of him?.. He's our only back up for centre forward.

Some of the things people say on this forum are bizarre.

There was never a chance of him going probably just gone to watch his former team and friends play a football match.

Plenty of our former players have watched us.

Hence why I said “forum” and not “thread”.

Yes in the 3rd division when he drops down to that [his] level.
