SWANSEA SHOCK MOVE FOR FORMER BLUEBIRD

Mon Aug 06, 2018 2:03 pm

Swansea City have today been linked with a shock move for former Cardiff City defender Declan John.

Monday 6th August 2018

John left Cardiff City last season to join Rangers with playing opportunities limited at the Cardiff City Stadium.

However, it appears his playing time will now also be limited at Ibrox following the arrival of new manager Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard’s signing Jon Flanagan now looks like being first-choice left-back, leaving Declan John in the cold.

And the Welsh international will be allowed to leave this summer if he can find a club, according to the Sun.

The Sun also claim that Swansea City are interested in signing John on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The move would be a shock with John coming through the Cardiff City academy before representing the first team on 42 occasions in the league. He also went on to represent Wales five times after making his debut in 2013.

However, the 23-year-old is desperate for playing time after being left frustrated throughout his career so far.

Swansea City could be set to offer him that and it could be an opportunity for the Welshman to return to his home country.

A few have gone already. They've been after a few left backs as they've only got that Olsson lad. The Ayew's are close to going. Andre might have actually already gone out on loan with most of his wages being covered. Jordan was last close to Palace I saw? Mawson already gone for a decent fee so they should be OK to sign Declan John. He won't command a massive fee and he's not on big money wages wise.

I would hate to see him go to Swansea he will be crucified by there fans . He is not good enough for the championship and I would not like to see the kid get abuse he will get.

Sure he hit the post for us in the derby against the Jack's would have been a cult hero if he had scored :bluebird:

One of the most over hyped players we’ve had for a while.

It’s crazy that he played so many games in the premier league for us and people are more worried about how Peltier will get on.

I remember Roger Gibbins going to Swansea and I think he came back to us later. Obviously Toshack as well, but I expect there are more recent ones who I can't recall. Like you say, a good quiz question. Somebody on here will know for certain.

Wayne routledge is a good shout did not think of him

I was thinking Warren Feeney but think Routledge was after that

Been a long time since a home grown Cardiff player made the switch

He done fine, better going forward than defending though, Gerrard clearly doesn’t fancy him as he’s playing Flannigan, who’s right footed, before John. Also Rangers are supposed to be close to signing a Croatian left back.

Cant defend to save his life, never the most interested in training at the city as well I heard.
Perhaps hes now knuckling down.

I never saw him as a left back. You could tell even when he came in at 18: he's a great dribbler; fast; and got a decent delivery - but can't defend. Converting him to a winger will be the best thing for his career. He'll be no Gareth Bale but he can be a decent player. So, if Sw***ea are bringing him to be a full back...they'll be disappointed.

The support liked him as he always put in a good shift, liked to cut in and even scored a few goals. I wish him well.
