John left Cardiff City last season to join Rangers with playing opportunities limited at the Cardiff City Stadium.
However, it appears his playing time will now also be limited at Ibrox following the arrival of new manager Steven Gerrard.
Gerrard’s signing Jon Flanagan now looks like being first-choice left-back, leaving Declan John in the cold.
And the Welsh international will be allowed to leave this summer if he can find a club, according to the Sun.
The Sun also claim that Swansea City are interested in signing John on a loan deal until the end of the season.
The move would be a shock with John coming through the Cardiff City academy before representing the first team on 42 occasions in the league. He also went on to represent Wales five times after making his debut in 2013.
However, the 23-year-old is desperate for playing time after being left frustrated throughout his career so far.
Swansea City could be set to offer him that and it could be an opportunity for the Welshman to return to his home country.

I remember Roger Gibbins going to Swansea and I think he came back to us later. Obviously Toshack as well, but I expect there are more recent ones who I can't recall. Like you say, a good quiz question. Somebody on here will know for certain.

I was thinking Warren Feeney but think Routledge was after that
Been a long time since a home grown Cardiff player made the switch

He done fine, better going forward than defending though, Gerrard clearly doesn’t fancy him as he’s playing Flannigan, who’s right footed, before John. Also Rangers are supposed to be close to signing a Croatian left back.
