I honestly believe the early closure of transfer window was brought in to protect the club's already in the Prem. As at least 2 of most newly promoted clubs need to improve their squads significantly

I dont see what difference it makes when the window opens and closes as long as it is the same for every club in the league.
All clubs have the same amount of time to make deals. If some cant get deals done then maybe they need to look at the people negotiating the deals rather than the time scale of the transfer window.
You can make deals with other clubs before the window even opens its just that you cant register a player until the specified dates.
I think its a good thing that it closes before the first game

It could have a negative effect for some of the bigger clubs really with Europe still able to buy until the end of August
Now that won’t effect us of course, but could effect others

Both good opinions but closing the window a month earlier than normal must be a bigger hurdle to teams that need to rebuild their squads the most

Possibly yes, but in all honesty clubs have 3 months to sign players during this window. That should be more than enough time to target players and complete negotiations.
Warnock would have had a list of targets way before the season finished, 1 for the championship and 1 for the premier league. So the club knew the players to target and could start negotiating straight away.
I think the difference this year was the fact the world cup was on so a lot of players were concentrating on that not transfers.

Im not sure it matters tbh - its same for everyone.
In fact it could work in our favour.
Ive just looked at Transfermkt and the number of midfielders who are out of contract is quite large. There is a guy at the top worth £6.5m Pontus Wernbloom who has played over 50 times for Sweden and is a Champions League player. He's not played in the Premier League. Maybe he fancies it.
But some interesting names down the list
I think next week will be interesting. I can see us bringing in 3 players over next few days - and dont forget, now that we are premier league, agents will be knocking on our door - rather than us on theirs!
