“ Cardiff City Tonight “

My opinion

Cardiff City 1 Real Betis 2

Cardiff City: Etheridge; Manga, Morrison, Bamba; Peltier, Ralls, Paterson, Bennett; Hoilett, Murphy, Reid.

Subs: Murphy, Connolly, Cunningham, Damour, K. Harris, Mendez-Laing, Zohore, Madine

A great goal by new signing Murphy :thumbright: :bluebird:

But over all Real Betis by far the more skilful and better team.

We had some good patches in the game and I thought we gave a good account of ourselves just missing the extra quality.

Got to get two in midfield ,i really think Reid, hoilet, murphy and zohore will do great in the premiership just need the midfield to help them out

I thought Zohore was lethargic but hoilett Reid and Murphy especially all looked a threat with their pace, Mendez looked like the new akinfenwa, Morrison was outstanding also I thought.we dominated second half and was unlucky not to get an equaliser against a good side

agreed reza looked a lot better than i thought against quality opposition . i was fearing a lot worse

there was nothing there today to feel negative about

Nobody going to mention the elephant in the room?

Fine I will, Pelts got murdered as I’ve begged all summer we need a new RB and two CMs. Why buy a LB in Cunningham when we have Bennett and Pelts/Manga had been doing a job in Championship!? Just doesn’t make any sense the money we’ve spent and the areas chosen? Even if Grujic has signed, we’d still be two bodies shorter in the middle of the park...

We don’t need a new right back Jazz and Peltier will be fine. Joaquin isn’t just some average player you know.

An the money we’ve spent makes perfect sense the signings of Reid and Murphy have made us much much better going forward. We needed a goalkeeper and only had one left back.

Totally disagree pelts is clearly going to struggle. 37 year old joaquin I might add.. Better wingers he will face soon! A quality right back Is needed

Agree we needed a right back but also think we needed a left back. Agree with the rest though. If budget was really that right I'd have not signed Reid

You are of course entitled to your own opinion, it’s what makes these boards tick. Thing is I like Jazz... if and that’s a big if, he can stay fit. He barely featured last year!? So how can you say he’ll be fine in the Prem? Pelts is the weakest link in the side (even if we are missing two CMs). Jazz will be forced to play CM as will Bamba at DM.
I never said Murph, Reid, Cunningham or Smithies were bad signings - in fact I like them all. My point was we lost Grujic, Bryson and Halford and Gunnar’s is no spring chicken - in my eyes that all screams a discrepancy in the center of the park - for whatever reason hasn’t been addressed since May!?

Have to agree regarding Pelts. He's been a good servent to the club but his lack of pace going back and his 0 influence going forward is a big concern.

He will have players running at him like that all season and the way he just let the guy breeze past him for the 2nd goal was worrying!

Jazz has to start at RB for me. He played excellent against City in the cup and also kept Hazard quiet for Wales. He also offers a lot more than Pelts going forward. Definietly need cover there though as we all know how injury prone he has been!!

I was a bit worried for the 20 minutes before half time when we looked a little lost and couldn’t get the ball, but in the 2nd half looked a lot better.

It’s always difficult in pre season as you’re not quite sure of how fit the opposition are, and which are there first team players etc. But Betis did finish 6th in La Liga last season (although a long way behind the top 4) and have a Europa League Group place.
I’m pretty sure they are better than at least half the teams in the Premier League so we shouldn’t panic too much.

Midfield is a little worrying unless Gunnarsson returns to his pre-injury form but we all know that already.

I thought Damour did well we he came on.

That winger turned Manga inside out the first time he got the ball, but fair play to Manga, he was excellent after that.

Josh Murphy looks classy.

Bring on the Premier League!

All aboutsquad numbers for me now. Having watched the betis game I am quite optimistic. We looked dangerous given the limited amount of possession we had. If we buy a creative midfielder we may get even less possession as we may have one less player snapping at the oppositions ball players. Not all premier teams will have the quality of betis some will have more. We will stay up if we have the additional legs when needed :bluescarf:

Jazz an Bamba won’t be used in midfield don’t worry about that.
I don’t know where your getting Gunnarsson is no spring chicken from he’s only 29.
We will sign two midfielders before Friday.
Even if we did sign another right back they’d still get pulled apart against the players we will come up against this season
