Whoever we bring in could define the season this week! We need 3 big signings it might be time for Warnock to drop our low budget approach and ask Tan to splash the cash!
We need 2x 10 million players at very least....the money market in the prem has changed since last time we are were there.
I don’t care about frendilies I hope Warnock and staff are working around the clock on players.

Niasse/slimani loan if available
Arter midfielder and Snodgrass
If it was that simple

We don't have 20 million!
Didn't Warnock say we would have the smallest budget of any promoted club, about half of what Huddersfield spent when they got promoted. We've spent just over 20 million so I guess that's most if not all of the transfer funds gone.
Sat Aug 04, 2018 11:49 am
Warnock is a good talker if he wanted more money he could get it
Sat Aug 04, 2018 11:54 am
Tan can’t expect any manager to keep us up on 25 million! That’s one player for every other club! Board are living in cloud 9 if they think that kind of budget will make us competitive for years to come........
Sat Aug 04, 2018 12:04 pm
Why does the amount spent matter?
Has absolutely nothing to do with it.

I don't think the board are living in cloud 9, they know we can't compete with the big boys or even the likes of Burnley or Bournemouth so they are spending what they can without putting the club into any financial problems.
25 million won't keep us up I agree, I just don't see us buying any more players just 2 loan players to come in.

I think fans quickly forget the amount of debt still outstanding, and the massive amount that Tan has already pumped in to convert huge sums into shares. Not long back most fans were calling him every name under the sun and wanted him out. Suddenly, everyone wants him to spend millions more of his own money to buy more players, despite the amount he has already thrown into the club. Older fans will know we are in a position most of us could never dream we would see. A club with a rich owner slowly clearing our debts, and a club in the top division instead of having to fight just to stay in the league. Makes a change from court cases brought against the club when we could'nt even afford to pay relatively trivial amounts to the taxman. I would enjoy it while you can, if we do things as we did in the past, we could end up playing Rochdale in front of 1500 fans again.

Agree with you 100%.
I don't mind being a yoyo team for the next few years, 1 season up the next down and then we go again investing in a few young players as we go along.

We are also sending out the wrong signal to every potential signing that the club are going nowhere with this failure to spend any more money people read between the lines and so do all the footballers perhaps thats why grujic did 'nt sign just cannot fathom why vicent tan was so happy we got promoted and there is this mental block of spending perhaps say another 20 mill in the grand scheme of things its surely peanuts to whats on offer, surely mr choo and memit know the score hear by now, they know the going rate for a promoted team is surely more than 20 mill for transfers in the biggest league in the world

We are a club that is still 60 million or so in the red! I'd rather the board play it safe rather then put the whole club at risk or we could end up like Sunderland big club big ground in league 1.

As much as i want to see us buying top players Relegation although very dissapointing is not the end of the world.
More important is that we are financially free making our long term future safe.
Enjoy the ride this season you never know where we will end up,hopefully we stay up and surpass all the expert doom mongers.

This thread is again dominated by money & transfer funds and it would be disappointing if City do t give it a go this time around. We waited over 50 years to get into the top flight and have been lucky to get a second chance under the miracle workings of NW, his team & squad. Why do all the hard work without giving it a go? Good luck to Fulham & Wolves because it’s clear that they have shown ambition.
Every club is in a different financial position but a ‘reasonable ‘ investment could provide huge dividends. Survive the first year and debts are a part of history. The rewards are so big that we have seen many Championship teams spend huge sums of money to get to the promised land, e.g. Deby, Villa, Boro etc and even this summer Stoke & even Forest have outspent our 24m spend. Forest brought in one player for 13.5m!
Yes, there are debts and Tan has done a great job but 100-200m is guaranteed EVERY season in the top flight. Would like City to bring in 2/3 quality players this week whether that be 1 loan and 2 permanent signings or vice versa. Let’s give it a go and don’t take it for granted that we are going straight back down.
I certainly don’t buy into this yo yo team. The Championship is a tough Division to get out of. We have done the hardest part by reaching the Premiership.

I suppose there are two ways of looking at it. I can certainly see it from your point of view. I can also see the other point where if we are £60m or so in debt, that quickly becomes £80m with one or two decent signings, plus wages and running costs and the guaranteed money is gone with the debt not reduced at all. If it was certain that spending extra would mean PL football next season then everyone would say that is the way to go. Unfortunately we could spend big, still be relegated, and end up with bigger debts than we already have. Difficult to expect Tan to write off even more millions if we gamble and lose. There are bigger clubs than us who would swap places today if they could.

Totally agree why would any fan be happy if we went back down to the championship every body knows what riches are there if we stay up this season and this would recoup all money' s spent in the transfer market speculate to accumulate, its like strangling something that has just been born not given a chance, don' t want to be like west brom up and down like a brides nighty.

Heard yesterday some agent I think talking on TS, saying if you bought a players on say a four year deal for 15 mill you will normally pay it off over the course of the contract? Didn’t know this. He was referring to Bournemouth offering £30 million for someone, ie how can they afford it. If this is the case surely we can buy that Turkish lad or the one wolves had last season?

Tell Man City that then.
Of course it matters, the more money you have, the better players you sign.
It’s that simple really.

Maybe right but clubs have run into trouble when player leaves club before end contract especially with long contract, so leaving club to find remainder of fee quickly.
In bournmouths case they've probably amassed bit spending money since being in premiership
Sat Aug 04, 2018 1:52 pm
I can't agree that money has nothing to do with it. The biggest spenders usually win the Premiership. We are not looking to win the league but just to survive. To do this we do need to spend more.

What are you talking about?
Why are you comparing us to one of the richest teams in the world and the premier league champions when signing players?
Manchester City can sign top world class players that you can pretty much guarantee are not going to flop and will succeed in this country. Money does not mean a thing to them.
We can’t.
Going by your logic if we’d have signed Buffon, Wiltshire, Yaya Toure and Emre Can we would of had an absolutely terrible transfer window because the best players cost the most money. Don’t try feeding me the massive signing on fee line when signing these players because when you get to a certain level every signing on fee is massive anyway.
We don’t need to go out and spend 20 million on players what we need to do is go out and make sure we sign the RIGHT player and if we can’t find him then we can’t find them we try again the next window.
