Premier League experience required

Fri Aug 03, 2018 11:32 am

With just one week to go before the window shuts it is looking like its going to go down to the last day and without doubt Im sure Neil is doing all he can to bring in 2/3 more by that time.

It is well known that we need a couple of midfielders and a striker to have a better chance of staying in this league and hopefully the boss can get those players in soon.

My personal feeling is, I can see Bobby Reid stepping up and being a real handful and the same with Josh Murphy. Both are hungry and a pose a real threat as does Junior Hoilett and Mendez. But, to have a good chance of staying in this league you need to consistently score goals, and like some on here are saying, is one of the biggest concerns. Both Madine and Zohore were not prolific and consistent enough in the Championship, although in fairness to Madine he was banging them in at Bolton and maybe it took him time to settle in. However, this league is much tougher with better defenders, granted there might be a little more time on the ball but still you need to knock it in the back of the net. The other concern is a combative creative midfielder and I'm not convinced Grucjic is creative enough, although he is combative and still learning, but the way things are looking he may not even come here so that leaves other options. Whatever will be will be and I think if we can get at least a couple more in with PL experience then I am sure we will be in with a good chance of shocking some teams and staying up.

Good post. I agree with you. I also think Reid & Murphy will step up but we definitely need those positions strengthened. When the chips are down and you are defending a 1-0 lead you can’t beat a bit of experience. Players who have been there and done it at the highest level.

Agree that a striker and at least one midfield player are needed. However we won't have to rely too heavily on Zohore as we have plenty of goals in the side from our wide players and others. Murphy, Holliet, Reid, Mendez Laing and Patterson are all capable of getting goals. Plus we have the threat of Morrison at set pieces. (Not to mention his end of season break away goal at Hull!)

Im not bothered about Premiership experience I just want someone decent to play alongside Ralls. Gunnerson has premiership experience but I don't think that makes him any better player for it.

Agreed on Gunnerson. Quality costs money, and money is something Tan does not want to spend too much of in the first season and I understand that. The problem is at present and with less than a week to go, is we don't have enough quality in midfield and that is where games are won or lost. The midfield needs a combative creative player and without one, we could struggle and get overrun in that department and I'm talking about teams from 10th place downwards - the mini league we need to be competitive in.

I'm optimistic that it can be sorted by next week - fingers crossed! :occasion5:
