Wolves and fulham leave us behind.

Tue Jul 31, 2018 6:51 pm

This was to be expected with there backers and this is probably why some on this forum are a bit anxious with our own moves in the tranfer market i am completly happy with what we have signed so far but the grujic saga looks like we are desperate and would have wished we would have moved elsewhere for a loan deal, i don' t mind either the deeney deal if it goes through he seems to fit neil' s dressing room without the "pre madonna tag but he does look a bit porky, and my own preference would have been rondon, just wished we could have matched what huddersfield spent in there first season without the supposed spending restriction's it just those last bits of the jigsaw which are needed to settle everybody down but more importantly for the team to gel together in this last fornight. Just on the real betis game i thought this was going to be a good yard stick to see where we are as a team but with them playing Bournemouth friday night we don't know what side we will be playing which is a shame , but can't wait for the season to start and have mentally prepared for more losses than wins but really looking forward to shocking a lot of the teams and niel' s salute to the fans at tbe end.

im sure there will be 2 or maybe 3 arrivals mate..as for the Grujic thing i think thats been played out on here far more than the wider football world..
truth be told had he not been here last season..........would we be more impressed by loaning a Liverpool player Klopp deemed not good enough to go to the USA and France...or one he has taken..?

What was Huddersfield budget?,cos if Deene deal went through, that's roughly 40m we would have spent ,maybe more in the kitty after all?

In terms of Fulham and wolves leaving us behind, I don't see it as clear cut as that. They have both had to spend big to stay the same, where as we have spent 28m strengthening.

Fulham have spent 22m on a striker they had last season, have lost a key player in Fredricks. Take that 22m out their spending isn't far greater than ours. 30m double deal for unknowns from French league 6m on an unknown from beskitas and a loan for schurle which I do envy.

Wolves have spent big bringing in Afobe then loaned him out, boly, vinagre and bonotini who were all there last year.

Apart from that they have brought in Moutinho (class in his day now 31) could go either way. Johnny otto (replacement for Fredricks) an unknown released from Liverpool youth (probably won't play) and a goalkeeper.

We have signed 4 quality championship players who deserve a crack at Premier league and will be chomping at the bit to prove themselves. Possible Grujic, Deene and another 1 or 2 and I'm very happy with the business

BLUESINCE62 . I thought it was high end of the 40 mill mark closer to fifty, but will stand corrected but an extra 10 mill makes a big difference but you are right if deeney goes through we are nearly there.

Huddersfield spent about 35m ish last summer then signed Pritchard in the January window for 12 ish I think

As we seen in the championship last season money does not buy you success, but we need more strength that’s clear cut, starting to worry we are not fully equipped with the season starting next week.

I am quite confident in what we have.

Yes the big 6 will walk all over us.

But most of the other 15 I'm confident.

They will come to us thinking easy 3 points, as long as we stay controlled and structured at the back like we did last season we will pick a lot of them off on the counter.

Look at the way Burnley play. No superstars/pre madonnas just a great team ethic and good manager.

We know it's a relegation battle as it will be for wolves and Fulham.

What would I rather buy quality from the championship who will be chomping at the bit or unknown foreigners who know nothing about English football. I'd go for quality championship

Unfortunately money does buy you success most of the time. Have a look at the thread ‘The 10-15m goal player we desperately need’. Of the 22 players in the top goal scorers list for last season in the Premier League only 2 players that are in that list that may have cost less than 15m & they both take penalty takers for their clubs and that’s why they are in the list. All of the top goal scorers in the Premiership cost a lot more than 15m. Money does buy you success in other positions as well. Team spirit is important but it can only take you so far.

A lot of the teams down the bottom have invested this summer - Brighton, Southampton, b'mouth, wolves, Fulham. Going to be a tough season...

BRIDGENDBLUEBIRD 30. Agree totally its a shame thats the way it is but who could argue against the likes of real madrid, and man city as the best example what money can buy it was' nt long ago they where in the championship and always 2nd fiddle to united till the money was pumped in by big backers its a sad fact but true.

What would you call success, we need to finish 4th from bottom, would you class that as successful, I would. Do we need to spend Big to be successful, not necessarily, 50 mil could see us finish just above relegation.

Probably two schools of thought re Wolves/Fulham spending here:

1. Those City fans who are concerned of the club overspending and do not want to take the Wolves/Fulham route.

2. Those City fans who see Wolves/Fulham’s spending as a sign of ambition. They see the reward that the Premiership brings
every season with huge sums of money & want a part of that. Probably think that they work so hard to get to the
promised land why give it up straight away.

Thought that City spending 35-45m at the start of the window would be reasonable and to date we have spent 24m. Always said would prefer quality over quantity. Still expect a couple of signings before deadline day.

Agree with this, I think we need 2 centre midfielders, a right back and a striker still but we certainly haven’t been left behind

How old is Madonna these days? If we are talking about signings before her time , then that was a long time ago :x
