Spending So Far This Transfer Window

Sun Jul 29, 2018 2:46 pm

SSN reporting:

Liverpool 176.9m
West Ham 94.9m
Man Utd 81.7m
Arsenal 70.6m
Man City 60m
Chelsea 57m

Those are the figures spent by the clubs this window to add to the quality that they already have. City have spent 24m, how do you compete against these teams? I accept that only West Ham could have been considered to be a bottom half team but many of the bottom half teams have spent a tidy sum.

We still have just under 2 weeks left in this window and I hope City don’t leave themselves short by not bringing in a creative midfielder and striker. Looks like the likes of Slimani, Mousa, Rondon, Gayle, Hernandez, Mitrovic, Origi, are all available I just hope that we don’t ignore the fact that we need a striker that can score goals in the Premiership. Yes Rondon’s wages would be high but a 16m fee would be reasonable.1 marquee signing on top of the 24m is not going to break the bank. Worst case scenario you recoup the money by selling if relegated.

you recoup the money if relegated....IF the marquee signing is say a Gary Medel..what if its a Cornelius or that Gomis fella Malky tried signing who ended up down the road..or Villas marquee signing year before last Rosco.
the idea that you sign a player for 16 mill and then you just recoup it is not how football works at all..never has

The difference being of course is that Rondon is not a Cornelius. Rondon has suitors now ( Newcastle ) and will have in the future. A signing like that is not a gamble.

the three players i mentioned all had suitors...come on mate...have a look at the QPR fine thread...most of those were decent players and some they didnt /couldnt move on for years...or ourselves last time..a big chunk of debt came from players we couldnt shift and ended up paying to leave as did Swansea with Gomis who we almost paid 8 mill for..
if football worked like your making out it does nobody would ever lose money..

Correct.

I don't want to sound negative but I'm already worried about the £10 Million we supposedly spent on Bobby Reid.

He's only had one half decent season at Bristol City, if it goes tit's up for us and him next season he could be back playing in League 1/2 in a few years and we would be lucky to get 10p never mind £10M Million back on him.

On the other hand he could be an absolute sensation and then a top 6 club comes in for him for 30/40m.

How many relegated Clubs do you know who have players in their squads who have been 'absolute sensations' in a relegation year?

Let's not forget that the above figs the teams have spent may have been added to what they have sold .

We have not got much for any of our players to add to the total spent to date .

Newcastle are a good example when they sell Mitorvic to Fulham - This will free up fees .

Not many but it happens. Trippier and Robertson are recent (ish) examples. Marshall was one for us last time we were in the prem

in fairness we did did that with both Medel and Caulker last time, getting back all, or pretty much all of what we spent.

Its definitely a gamble though, and one the club wont take.

Someone like Rondon has been mentioned, but if he gets relegated again i doubt he will hold his value.
