Stupid Song

Sun Jul 29, 2018 1:11 pm

Just saw amateur video of Burton match on YouTube

When Bobby Reid scored some people were singing a song about how he "hates Bristol"

This massively talented YOUNG player has made the switch from the team which brought him on from a kid. Of course he loves that club and according to some press reports he's been getting a hard time about it from some Bristol fans.

He's got the potential to become Cardiff's biggest iconic player since John Toshack , grab vital goals in the forthcoming Premiership campaign and quite possibly in future contend for international recognition .

Now, I'd have thought we wanted to welcome him into Cardiff City's renowned unity and undivided team spirit rather than try to wind him up and make him feel like a traitor for joining us.

I don't know the boy, but I'd guess that he doesn't hate the place he's from or his family and that's not required for him to start to love Cardiff and play his heart out for the Club.

If those who do that song want to put him off his game and make him feel subconsciously guilty about scoring for Cardiff ( cause that apparently means he "hates Bristol")........ Carry on !
Maybe you can put him off his game altogether and he'll never score the scorching goals I fully expect him to.

Hey ....... Maybe you can actually get us relagated like that . Perhaps you could make up some chants to alienate Sean Morrison and Sol Bamba while you're at it .

Do agree though can understand singing it as a taunt to Bristol fans if we were playing against them, but singing it when the closest person to a bristol fan in the stadium is probably Reid himself is not doing anyone any favours.

exactly...you singing about a pick and shovel you dont have is identical to singing about a player who now apparently hates Bristol despite being born in Bristol , bred in Bristol and whose family live in Bristol..

This is proper snowflake stuff.

No wonder we never get any new songs going.

It has to pass through the CCS PC brigade AND has to be true or we can't sing them.

It's starting to get embarrassing now.

Re: Stupid Song

This is the sort of drivel I meant on an earlier post about “songs”

Re: Stupid Song

He's probably grown up enough to realise it's only a few daft twats singing rubbish and it goes right over his head. I'm pretty sure he's got a lot more to worry about.

Well this is hardly a new song. We used the same one for Tomlin last season?

would it really go over your head...
if Swansea offered you the opportunity to be a multi millionaire by playing for them youd be 100% fine with the he hates Cardiff line..personally id play through it as best i could but really not liking it or them tbh.
not sure it would just go over my head..

Re: Stupid Song

Sun Jul 29, 2018 3:55 pm

I’m sure he’d take it as a bit of banter, but I agree with the OP. I’d much rather us come up with a positive song involving Reid or Cardiff City as opposed to this embarrassing obsession with a team I don’t even think of as our biggest rivals (probably due to the era I started watching Cardiff).

The chant is sung up and down the entire UK and has already been copied by us for Tomlin, so maybe it’s time to let the dead donkey rest and come up with something unique to our club. :bluebird:

It’s nothing PC, I just find it boring and cringeworthy.

Re: Stupid Song

It was being sung down in Torquay last week. Made me cringe, to be honest. It's one thing singing it about Lee Tomlin, but Bobby Reid is a Bristolian who has come through Bristol City's ranks. He loves Bristol City!

I've always seen the Wurzels as our biggest rivals, but would prefer not to rub it in this time, not for Bristol City's sake, but for Bobby Reid's.

Having said that, I'm sure he can handle it!

He is a professional and playing for Cardiff is his job which he gets paid well for.

I would imagine he is smart enough to rise above it or take it for what it is, if he was THAT passionate about it he would never have signed for us in the first place.

Ever since I have followed Cardiff we have sung anti English songs etc despite having for the most part a Club made up of mainly Englishmen. I can't think of anyone other than was it Spencer Prior was has ever made an issue out of it and that is a lot of players, staff and managers.

It's just terrace banter, not real life.

No, mate. You might have been singing anti English songs, but I wasn't, and as you even point out yourself you're supporting a team and a club which does and always has had players from all over the place . I can remember people singing anti black songs too, but that wasn't okay either. On that subject I can remember people chucking bananas at Clyde Best from the Canton Stand - terrace banter do you think ?

Someone said that its all okay because they used to sing the same song to Lee Tomlin - well that worked out great didn't it ?

Someone else said I was exaggerating his ability, but I did say POTENTIAL , and the boys got it in my opinion. Remains to be seen if I'm right, but let me tell you that people in other parts of the country ( Britain that is), are enthusing about it and I've heard people from a few big clubs remarking that they might have missed out on him.

Someone else again accused me of political correctness - well I don't believe in that and if you or anyone else wants to say or sing nasty spiteful b*****ks I think you must be allowed to do that, but equally if someone else suggests that you should have better manners and use your nut about the effects it might have, well they're allowed to tell you that too.

Wow, just wow.

How can you even compare singing racist songs and throwing bananas at people in the same breath as mild banter between rival fans is quite honestly absolutely staggering.

As I said, if it was a massive issue it would have been raised by one of the countless English men that's represented our Club over the years.

Similarly with Bobby Reid, I'm fairly sure if he was that uncomfortable with it he would never have signed for us in the first place or would say something himself rather than have the easily offended speak on his behalf.

Lastly, as someone who has a girlfriend of afro-caribbean descent I don't need anyone to point out to me the rights and wrongs of racism thanks.

Wasn't talking about racism - I was talking about ignorant behaviour generally and its potential to create disunity and bad feeling which can be reflected in performances on the field .
If it came to a point where he was publicly complaining about it that'd mean a rift had already been created.

I'm actually quite excited about the very positive and constructive state of mind Sir Neil has created at the club , right through the players, staff and supporters. That alone is worth 4 or 5 expensive players in itself , so I think it's very very very stupid for anyone to start thinking of ways to upset that for the sake of singing a little yobbo song which isn't even funny on its own merits.

As supporters we'd all really like to be out there scoring goals and saving games ourselves, wouldn't we ? We can't of course, all we can do is provide support and encouragement and make our players feel loved and appreciated, so please, come on now , get with the effort and forget about sad little grudges against other teams and people who happen to be fairly close to you geographically.

I sincerely hope that Swansea, Bristol City and Rovers all do well and get promoted this season and if we can help any of them with loan players or anything while our luck is riding high then we certainly should . Positivity and generosity breeds success and spite invites nothing but failure and frustration . The Bobby Reid story is about potential success for Cardiff City and the boy himself , it's not about spiting Bristol City so PLEASE don't sour the milk !
