O/T Hurling!

Just wondering does anyone else watch the hurling on here?

Don't watch it. But I've been to Croke Park. What a stadium. Huge!

The GAA museum is good too. Taught me a bit about the games. What got me the most was how all the players are amateur. One day your postman the next playing in front of 80,000 at Croke!

Without sounding stupid is this the Irish sport where you can score by kicking and throwing the ball into a netpassed a goalie? Think it also has rugby posts where you can kick the ball through them as well

Close. Youre talking about Gaelic foitball. Both part of the Gaelic games.

Hurling is the one with the stick. Throw the ball and hit it. It's ruthless, proper physical sport!

Gaelic football is the one you kick and throw.

No. This is the game like aerial hockey, where they hit a hard ball through the air with a stick which looks like a cross between a hockey stick and a cricket bat! It looks very dangerous, and without resorting to racial stereotypes, only the Irish would be mad enough to play it!

You’re thinking of Gaelic football, which is played on the same pitch ( not at the same time!)

its an unbelievable game in all fairness, total amateur sport where these lads give 10 months of the year to it (same as Gaelic football) after doing a days work. I was at the match yesterday between Galway and Clare these sides finished 33-33 after extra time. You will see that score as 1-30 to 1-30 where the 1 represents a goal which is equal to 3 pts and the 30 is the points scored over the cross bar. I moved over to Ireland 18 years ago and took to it straight away, couldn't imagine Neymar playing this game :D. Like jimmy said the postman, barman, painter, teacher one minute next minute playing in front of over 82000 in Croke park the next. The 2nd semi final is on sky today Limerick v Cork should be another cracker, give it a glance if you can you will be impressed. Not matter how many points ahead you are you are never out of the game, within 15 mins minutes yesterday Galway opened up a 9 pt lead which was pegged back. you could be 15 to 20 points in front and still not assured of a win! That's the beauty of the 3 pts for a goal which can bring you right back into the game.

Awesome! Did you watch live at the stadium? I'd recommend the Croke park sky tour if you're in Dublin. Get all harnessed up and they take you up on the roof (bloody high up) and show you the city. Get access to the museum too. Well worth it.

Great game. I played a couple of games for the Gaelic Football team in Cardiff, St Colmilles. The best sport I’ve ever played! If you get interested go and see them play! Think they play at pontcanna now! Look for them on facebook! My grandmother is from cork so I was always interested in it! Very technical!

There's enough 'hurling' on this Forum without having to watch it on the TV as well! ;)

I did mate, I try and go to all the Galway games! In fairness to the GAA they are a bunch of greedy gits but €5 for U16's (some games u16's go free) in all games apart from the All Ireland final is a great price. Tickets for the final are €80 for the cheap seats and €150 for premium (both types of tickets are like rocking horse shit for the finals)

Never watched but played it a few times when in Ireland visiting family. It is brutal to say the least and some of the bruises from playing it were pretty bad to say the least.
