Cardiff's home kit ranked Premier League's WORST

The Daily Mirror

Friday 27th July 2018

They’ve ranked Cardiff City’s new home shirt as the worst in the Premier League for 2018/19.

The worst? When we did our own kit ranking, the Bluebirds’ kit was among the best...

This is what their writer said:

“This effort from the newly-promoted Bluebirds is both fairly dull and not at all enhanced by the simple nature of the sponsors’ logo though, and so they get the short straw.
At least it’s blue though, unlike the last time they came up.
You can pick up the bog standard blue number from JD Sports.”

Premier League 2018/19 kit power rankings: Rating and slating all the home shirts we'll see this season

DAILY MIRROR

We know what you're thinking.

It doesn't seem five minutes since Kylian Mbappe planted that shot past Danijel Subasic to basically confirm that France were going to win the World Cup , and now here we are again with the Premier League.

The new campaign starts when Manchester United host Leicester City two weeks today , and while the early closure of the transfer window has raised so many questions about how each team will look in 2018/19, what about the really important question?

Premier League 2018/19 fixtures

That's right. Home kits. You know the drill.

Let's get ranking!

20. Cardiff City
Alright, we'll be honest, it isn't exactly a classic bunch this year. They're much of a muchness.

This effort from the newly-promoted Bluebirds is both fairly dull and not at all enhanced by the simple nature of the sponsors' logo though, and so they get the short straw.

At least it's blue though, unlike the last time they came up.

You can pick up the bog standard blue number from JD Sports.

19. Manchester United

The sun is shining and everyone is showing off their white bits. All except Manchester United.

Usually a traditional colour on their kits, it is strangely missing here and replaced by weird black hoops.

Not for us.

As per usual, it's available at Adidas , although don't expect any money off for the missing white.

18. Crystal Palace

Palace always seem to want to get some yellow in there with the blue and red, and they've gone for it again here.

It usually serves as a nice little addition to the stripes, but the fact that the stripes are sort of doing their own fading thing further down the kit means that there's a lot going on here.

Probably too much.

If you do want the slightly outlandish number, unsurprisingly you can get it from the CPFC website.

17. Southampton

Right, they had this kit last season didn't they? We're almost certain of it.

That's not how it's supposed to work lads.

Not that you need a new one, but if you did want to invest then JD Sports have it for sale. Never know, you might be able to keep the same strip for the next few years if last season is anything to go by...

16. Bournemouth

15. Brighton & Hove Albion

Must be a south coast thing (Image: Brighton and Hove Albion)
See Southampton and Bournemouth.

There must have been a shortage of imagination when it comes to stripes down on the south coast this summer.

As for stockists, they're just as lacking, with the shirt only available from the Brighton & Hove Albion website itself.

14. Tottenham Hotspur

This is a football shirt that looks okay on footballers, because they get to wear the shorts with it as well and it was obviously designed with them in mind.

But for your Average Joe Spurs fan who might not want to walk around in the full kit - and all power to them - then it won't really work, will it?

While we're not convinced, dedicated fans can still get theirs hands on the updated strip from Sports Direct.

13. Everton

Yeah Watford's is better sorry (Image: Everton FC)
The blue on the front bit of the shirt is nice, the sort of thing you might see on a the type of t-shirt you get in packs of three online. And it's so nice in fact that it is weird that they've deviated from it on the sleeves.

After all Everton are the Blues, not the Two Types of Blues.

It might be a little strange, but it's still a good one to have in the collection, and it's on sale at Kitbag .

12. Newcastle United

Yep, it's a Newcastle kit alright.

Thankfully the stripes are thinner than in many recent years, but as with many of the striped shirts this season it seems to be lacking in imagination.

You can probably get it cheap in Sports Direct though (for £54.99 to be exact). Or Kitbag are selling it.

11. Huddersfield

Open Umbro catalogue. Flick to the 'striped shirts' section. Run your finger down the contents page until you reach 'basic blue and white'. Go to that page.

Yeah, this is it isn't it?

If you do want it though, the only place we could spot it is on the Huddersfield Town website.

10. Chelsea

What happens when you left the kids loose with permanent markers (Image: Getty Images AsiaPac)
Bonus points for trying something different, but it's all ended up looking a bit messy hasn't it?

The red and white lines are a bit early 90s, and while that's no bad thing it just doesn't look quite right.

You can pick it up from Nike, who will also let you customise it for 1p extra. Go crazy.

9. Liverpool

Liverpool's home kits appear to get a shade darker every season, but so much so that they seem to have created their own unique colour of red now.

And it looks nice here, although they could probably have done without the white on the collar.

As per usual, you can get it from the Liverpool FC website, where pre-orders went flying.

8. Fulham

They're quite a pleasingly retro club are Fulham, and they're showing that off with this kit which is a homage to a couple of late-90s designs in which they were pretty successful.

White kits can look bland, but this doesn't.

Fancy opting for the monochrome? Get it from the Fulham FC website.

7. Watford

Well it's different, and in this extremely non-vintage season for Premier League kits then that is to be applauded.

Going stripy from non-stripy is always a bold move, but when you're called the Hornets you can pull it off.

Whether members of the public can also pull it off is a different matter, but if you think you've got it, you can pick up the kit from the Hornets own shop.

6. Burnley

Burnley head into Europe looking like this, and it's a strong one.

The collar into the sleeves colouring flows nicely, and without wanting to disrespect LaBa360 - whatever that is - you suspect that if they offered this without a sponsor on it'd be a best seller.

While it might be a decent kit, they don't make it very widely available, only being sold on the Burnley FC website.

5. West Ham

It's a crisp, clean look for a Hammers side who are much more claret than blue in 2018/19.

This simple home shirt works well, and looks good on the variety of exciting new signings the club have made.

Easy to pull off, you can get it from Kitbag.

4. Wolves

We may have moaned about a couple of sponsors above, but there's something pretty fitting about Wolves returning to the Premier League with a massive W on their shirts having clocked up win after win after win in the Championship last season.

Wonderful.

While the shirt was expected to be sold a the likes of Kitbag, Lovell Soccer and Pro:Direct Soccer, the only place we can find it at the moment is on the Wolves website.

3. Leicester City

Leicester's switch to adidas is a smooth, pleasing on the eye one, and this shirt conjures up memories of some of the designs the firm put out at the World Cup.

Granted it's no Colombia home shirt, but then few things on this earth are.

The Adidas top can be picked up from none other than JD Sports.

2. Arsenal

Yeah the pink bits on the sleeves are a bit weird, but they kind of work with the rest of a kit which is a nice change from recent paint-by-numbers Arsenal efforts.

The Gunners' sleeves will urge you to 'Visit Rwanda' this season, and so be prepared for conflicting urges about your travel plans when you watch them play Cardiff.

Both JD Sports and Sports Direct are selling it, if you want to update your old season shirt with the new, pink captain band look.

1. Manchester City

Not content with running away with the Premier League title last season, City have taken what some would say is the second most important accolade this year too.

Although we mocked Everton's different types of blue earlier it sort of works here, with the button collar and the sleeves with a kind of crumpled effect both winners.

As the team will be, probably.

Nike are selling the intriguing but certainly attractive shirt, which is also customisable for an extra penny.

It’s probably only one journalists view and everybody has different views about different clubs kit so I don’t think this is a biggie! :laughing6:
I like the kit and don’t mind the font of the Visit Malaysia but I can see why some people wouldn’t like it, it does look a bit amateur.

I think their deeper prejudices are coming through...
Their attempt at being hip, amusing and edgy fails miserably.

It's a football shirt. It's blue. It's got a bluebird on it. That's good enough for me.

How can we be judged to be 20th when Chelsea and Leicester, both with all blue, are 10th and 3rd respectively?

Clearly this paper's readers are not that perceptive to work that out.

And Arsenal is 2nd with those sleeves? Stroll on.
