' Latest on Aron Gunnarsson? '

Last nights friendly

By Tom Coleman

Rotherham 2 Cardiff City 1

Aron Gunnarsson only playing his first 45 minutes after a strenuous summer of World Cup action.

Cardiff basically have Ralls and that's it at the moment.

Callum Paterson doesn't look as comfortable in a deeper midfield position, neither do Reid or Junior Hoilett who have briefly played there in pre-season.

What about Gunnarsson?

Well the Ice Man was not at his sharpest at Rotherham and will need time before he's able to play 90 minutes at his combative best. He looked frustrated with himself at times after a mislaid pass or two.

I know we need numbers in but I really cant understand us re signing Gunnarsson.

For me, He isn't premiership standard.

Totally agree. Always been a big fan of Gunnar but since the euros he's looked like he thinks he's better than what he is. :(

I don't go along with this, yes he played a few world cup games but if anything surely that would have kept his fitness up if anything. I remember Hoilett having to play a load of games for Canada last summer and he came back flying.

Personally I don't think he is up to it but I keep getting told he is so I'm just hoping he has massively improved since last time we were in the prem.

didnt he..?
if he played like that for us certain people would be calling for his head because he didnt play million dollar balls and do 5 keep ups before scoring a worldy ..
to be critical on the strength of a poor journos views on a cameo appearance last night..and also suggest players that played in the WC { many of who are not back in training yet } are some how being given to much leeway..waw

I don't go along with the idea he is tired because he played at the World Cup.
I don't get your point on smithies, if the guy that wrote this article said that then we'll he's an idiot.

Incorrect I don't dislike Gunner at all, just don't think he was up to it last time we were in the prem and don't think he has improved since. I think we need better.

who said he tired?...but if he did, playing and training through the summer with your national team instead of having a break is universally accepted by every single expert as causing fatigue...take a good look at who has and has not played pre season friendlies and who are not even back in pre season training yet..
my point about Smithies was that u jumped in agreeing with some total numpty in his assesment of a player out for a run in a pre season friendly
last time in prem..i totally agree...in the role he plays in the system adopted by NW ..one of our better players...
im pretty sure that NW will sign at least one midfield player but dont expect him to be leaving Gunner out either..
what bothers me is should this happen the anti gunner stuff is already being lined up as excuse number1, which inevitably will lead to NW dont know what he is doing..etc etc etc...

He's had at least two holidays the last couple of months and shouldn't be to hard he didn't train for months of the season with injuries. It didn't effect Hoilett last season either.

I agree he will play every game when available whatever his form fitness so let's pray your right and he is up to it. :thumbright:

seriously..you cant see how one eyed these remarks are.?
.NW isnt or hasnt picked under performing players mate ,thats not how you win games promotions or become a success...it takes zero thought to figure that out ...
you and one or two others..dont see it..dont want to see it and have no intention of ever seeing it...its a real shame.not just regarding gunner either....as for out injured being called holidays..jeez.
do you have a twin sister that was in fatal attraction.

I wasn't referring to him being injured as holidays  he has been on two holidays, one just before the world cup and one after the world cup. :thumbright: try and twist it if you like though

The point about the injuries were referring to your comments about his fatigue. :thumbright:

Let's hope your right and he is a premiership midfielder, more than happy to be proved wrong.

i miss understood the holiday thing so i appologise on that...but he is entitled to a holiday and as previously stated some WC players might actually miss the seasons start..
i just want people to give NW and these boys a chance..this really aint happening..
its not just you..or just Gunner..
we are proper up against it and if people are in panic mode now and ready to be critical of our manager {because thats what it is } we stand zero chance.

He did over hit some passes last night. Idea was right, just hit the ball too hard. He looked very frustrated, especially at the end of the game. Not sure if he was having a go at other City players, or annoyed with himself.

Never understand the negativity towards Gunnar. What’s he done that’s so bad??? And why won’t he cut it in the prem? Too much negativity on here, it’s starting to get depressing and a ball hasn’t even been kicked in the prem.

He was obviously annoyed with himself, and was talking and gesturing with Warnock through the second half. His passing was poor, but he wasn't alone in that. Bennett's was all over the place, and Bruno's... and others. It was all very rusty. What we did see with Gunnar and Patterson was their midfield dog performance - hard tackling and chasing, getting stuck in and pressuring Rotherham players into hurried or misplaced passes.

At the end he was into Madine about mistakes they had made - from the way his arms were working it seemed to be about positional play. Sol was doing the same with Bruno. It was a poor performance (Rotherham deserved the win) but it was good to see some of the captains on the field trying to sort it before any of the coaching staff got involved.

I don't get the Gunnar knockers. He has limitations - as do most players outside the top teams - but I think he will be an asset for us next season, on and off the pitch. The positives way outnumber the negatives with him.

When Gunnerson wasn’t getting picked and was always on the bench people loved him.

When he gets picked people hate him.

Pretty much sums up the random thinking patterns of a cardiff city fan
