Neil Warnock reveals 'enquiries' for unwanted Cardiff City stars and when Lee Tomlin and others will depart -

Talk Sport

Thursday 26th July 2018

Cardiff City have received transfer enquiries for the likes of Lee Tomlin, Anthony Pilkington and Omar Bogle but Neil Warnock admitted his unwanted stars might not depart until the final day of the window.

Playmaker Tomlin has been linked with a return to Nottingham Forest, where he spent the second half of last season on loan, with Pilkington, Bogle and Stuart O'Keefe not part of Cardiff's first team plans this year.

The quartet haven't been involved in senior pre-season action, but Warnock expects their departures to be sealed in the coming weeks.

"We've had one or two enquiries, that will all come up I would imagine and liven up in the next three weeks," said the veteran boss after Cardiff's 2-1 defeat to Rotherham in pre-season.

"Especially when I announce my squad on the 9th (of August), the Football League have got another two or three weeks so I think a lot of them will be waiting until deadline as always."

January deadline day last season saw both Tomlin and Bogle - who were only signed 12 months ago - leave on loan to Forest and Peterborough United respectively.

And though this year's summer deadline has been brought forward to August 9, Warnock expects something similar again. He will concentrate his efforts on signing a new central midfielder, while relaxed about balancing his squad by letting some players leave.

"I don't know why but it's always the same," he added. "With the lads going out, it's always at the last minute, nobody really wants to pay their wages for three weeks.

"I don't enjoy deadline day because no matter what you say or plan, it just goes out of the window."

Neil Warnock gives update on Cardiff's move for Liverpool man, amid reports of Palace interest

Thursday 26th July 2018

London Sport

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Cardiff City, and Neil Warnock is confident that Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic will rejoin the Bluebirds on loan again.

That is despite reports that Crystal Palace are also interested in signing the Serbian midfielder.

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a return to south Wales, having spent the latter stages of last season on loan at Cardiff, helping them win promotion to the Premier League.

Warnock has been trying to re-sign the midfielder ahead of the new Premier League campaign, and he has provided an update on Cardiff's attempt to do so, after reports recently emerged linking his old club Palace with a move for the Serbian international.

"I'm not sure about that if I'm honest," Warnock replied, when asked about reported interest from Palace.

"I spoke to Marko yesterday, we are still optimistic, but we should know in the next few days.

"If he's not staying there I think he will come to us, it all depends on the negotiations.

"There is a new contract [at Liverpool] involved I think, but it will resolved, I'm sure they will make a decision shortly because they know I want him for that first game.

Grujic was involved for Liverpool as they beat Manchester City 2-1 on Wednesday in the International Champions Cup in New Jersey.

But Warnock has said that he is still hopeful a deal will get done, although he admits that Cardiff have got a back up option in case the Bluebirds fail to sign Grujic.

"I will be disappointed if we don't get him [Grujic], but it won't be the end of the world," Warnock said.

"They have made it clear to us that they want him to come, it's just up to the player now."

Palace have been linked with several midfielders in the past 48 hours as they look to sign a replacement for Yohan Cabaye, who left the club this summer to join Arabian Gulf League side Al Nasr.

Grujic is one of the players linked, along with West Ham's Cheikhou Kouyate, Roma midfielder Maxime Gonalons, Chelsea's Danny Drinkwater and Max Meyer, who is a free agent after leaving Schalke.

CARDIFF CONFIDENT ABOUT BEATING PALACE TO GRUJIC LOAN DEAL

26/07/18

Football 24/7

Palace look set to miss out on the chance to sign Marko Grujic on loan, with Cardiff boss Neil Warnock revealing he is confident the player will join the Premier League new boys.

According to a report by the BBC, Warnock explained that he has spoken to the player, as he closes in on another loan move away from Anfield.

I spoke to Marko yesterday, we are still optimistic, but we should know in the next few days. If he’s not staying there I think he will come to us, it all depends on the negotiations.

There is a contract involved, but it will be resolved, I’m sure they will make a decision shortly.

Palace were said to be interested in hijacking a deal for the Serbian, who now looks set to join Cardiff.

Hodgson is looking to add to his midfield, with moves for Grujic and Chelsea’s Danny Drinkwater in mind.

Grujic spent the second half of last season on loan at Cardiff and did enough to leave a lasting impression on Warnock.

The Cardiff boss is still looking to add to his squad ahead of their return to the Premier League and has confirmed he has a contingency plan if the deal to sign Grujic falls through.

We have found a back up which we are trying to hold on to for a couple days.

Will Palace regret not signing Grujic?

It's all a bit fluffy! New players need time to bed into their team and we can ilford to experiment when that whistle blows at Bournemouth.
As for this Serbian , it's now getting all a little boring. If the player wants to be ere, then why ain't he ?

Liverpool want to offer him a new contract, so the delay is between Liverpool and his agent who wants to get a good deal for him, that is the reason for the delay when terms have been agreed between them then we will have to agree how much of his wages we are prepared to pay, which I do not think will be a problem!

Grujic is in the same situation as Lee Tomlin, AP and Omar Bogle. Firstly we probably don't want to start paying his wages until we have to and also Liverpool will hold on until the last minute just in case one of their first team midfielders is injured and he is required as cover or they receive a bid which is too good to turn down.

There is talk of a new contract but I view that as a smoke screen rather than a real reason for the dely.
