Lack of Quality

Tue Jul 24, 2018 9:19 pm

looking at additions of the teams we came up with, we do seem to have once again not gone out of our way to add the big ego type charlie of a player... Wolves And Fulham are both happy to splash lavish amounts...

But whilst lessons have been learned, do you fear the lack of match winning quality (potentially) will see us rooted?

Time will tell if our work ethos will be good enough but spending loads doesn't garauntee staying up either? :old:

A lot of people worrying about nothing for me. No point breaking that team spirit that got us here. You could end upsetting certain players.

Just remember.. villa have a Grealish, Snodgrass, John Terry, Chester.
They spent almost 40 odd mil on strikers alone.

Boro signed 3 strikers for 30odd mil in total. They had experience in players like downing.

But where are these clubs? We finished above them. We are better than them.

A message to all the concerned fans.... stop underestimating our boys

Dont underestimate our boys yes, great work ethic and togetherness but we do lack quality at the moment and will go down without it imo, i hope we get a few techincially good players in before the window shuts because the competition we are facing is very very good

Squad is already quality! Murphy, Reid and Hoilett - top players. This squad has an identity and the direct style with pace to burn down the wings is going to cause some serious upsets. I’m more than happy with Gunnar and Ralls anchoring the midfield, would like to see another body in there as Damour is only cover, but all our attacks will be counters using that pace and power; plus loads of aggression, pressing and power in the middle and opposition third. Set pieces will be massive again. Can’t wait to see us go up against the likes of those charlies like Arsenal with this style.

Exactly. Warnock knows what he’s doing. No charlies. Look at Leicester in their champ season - lots of countering with pace and no big charlies playing for them (inevitable that Mahrez became one sadly), but that team had a load of misfits in it. Not saying we’re going to do a Leicester at all. but the similarities are there - I think someone like Hoilett will be a revelation this time around.

We don’t need a big time Charlie.
We desperately lack a ball playing midfielder.
If we lump it long out wide for Murphy, NML and Jnr to chase, then it’s going to be a very long season.
Premier defenders will eat up that all day long.
Like last season we’ll give away possession cheaply, but the difference being this time we’ll get punished for it.
Top teams don’t need 3 or 4 chances to put the ball away.
It’s a shame we didn’t get Joe Allen.
What about a cheeky loan for Ampadu?
Is he getting first team football?

I definitely think we have a lack of quality in team and it’ll show. Team spirit and work rate will only get you so far when you have players like our midfield- at present. We’ll give the ball away and won’t get it back against most of the teams. Hopefully, Warnock will bring in a bit of quality in the middle of the park and up front.
Saying all that, I’m really looking forward to the season and will be cheering City on all the way and hoping we spring a few surprises on teams that will underestimate us.

Exactly what I said in one of my other threads no concern with work ethic as we know with Warnock, a ball playing midfielder in the middle of the park we need and a natural finisher, someone like Dwight Gayle.

I agree. Games v the top 6 teams could be hard work but it’s the middle and lower teams that we are realistically trying to get points off. Anything else is a bonus.

We spent big last time and palace and Hull didn’t. They bought wisely and kept the signings mostly British and it worked for them while we went down.

Yes.... Said it all along we are going into the big league with a championship side. People will disagree I know.

I don’t consider that Wolves and particularly Fulham have spent ‘lavish’ amounts of money. I can’t see it staying at 24m but if we do not spend any more in this transfer window it’s fair to say that amount is well below the average of the bottom half teams. That could be classed as peanuts. Even West Ham are close to splashing out 100m! How do you compete against not only the top teams but even the bottom half teams who are buying players freely (except Newcastle/Palace as yet). Many teams in the Championship are spending huge sums because they know the huge financial rewards once you reach and stay in the top flight. Debts are soon a thing of the past?
