Bluebirds revive plan for training base in the Vale

Cardiff City Football Club could finally get permission to start work on a new training ground this week.

The Bluebirds want to build the new training ground in the Vale on council-owned agricultural land south-west of Junction 34 of the M4.

The Vale Council’s planning committee will discuss the first part of the plans, which would include 15 pitches on land opposite Hensol Villas, on Thursday (July 26).

The club also wants to build a two-storey training centre in the middle of the new ground, with 123 car parking spaces, but this is subject to a separate planning application.
Vale Council officers have advised the committee to approve permission for the 15 pitches, across a 44 acre site, subject to conditions.

There have been 19 letters of objection sent to the council since the planning application was first submitted in 2013.
Concerns raised by residents include the new training ground’s proximity to neighbouring properties, potential floodlighting, flooding issues and ‘noise levels and disturbance including obscene language,’ a council report says.

Pendoylan Community Council has also raised concerns about noise and increase in traffic resulting from the development, and has objected to using the land for non-agricultural purposes.

The training centre, which will be decided on another date, would include a gym, pool, treatment rooms and dining rooms.
There would also be spectator terraces for overlook the first team pitches to the west of the training ground and for academy pitches to the east.

Plans for the new training ground were originally submitted following Cardiff City’s promotion to the Premier League in 2013.
The Bluebirds were relegated in the 2013-14 season, but won promotion back to the top flight last season.
They play their first game back in the Premier League away at Bournemouth on August 11.

Excuse me for being thick but what’s this got to do with Barry? Thought the Vale was near Llantrisant?

The original plans for the training ground, which I anticipate will be very similar to this:

This is good news as the club have been way behind compared to most in terms of training ground! Badly needed, if we can stay up one year in the prem not doubt this could help things! Bluebirds.

I may be wrong because I haven't been there for a very long time, ( not as a patient before anyone says that), but isn't this the site of the old lunatic asylum ?

No - the Vale resort is though which is currently the WRU training facility, and extended to the Vale golf club etc.

Played a couple of games of cricket there late 1970s - a real education!! Best mate’s Dad was site manager.

Llantrisant is in Rhondda Cynon Taff. While The Vale almost borders Llantrisant it also borders Bridgend and extends all the way to Cardiff , Barry is well and truly in the Vale and a lot of the Vale councillors are down that way. The new site in my opinion would bring prestige to the area and fringe financial benefits. I am though sensitive to local opinions, County concillors in my experience are not but at least these people wont have to put up with half way houses for druggies and sex perverts like many of us have to.

Just thinking slightly outside the box if we stay in the PL, have a 33k stadium, first rate training ground and no debt wouldn't we be a very attractive club to sell on?
