" CARDIFF TO TRIGGER RELEASE CLAUSE? "

Thu Jun 28, 2018 7:37 am

Premier League new boys Cardiff City are set to test Rangers ’ resolve with a £3m bid which would trigger Josh Windass’ release clause, according to reports.

Thursday 28th June 2018

The Bluebirds are long-term admirers of the Ibrox forward and had been looking to land Windass for in a cut-price deal this summer.

But now they are prepared to meet the full valuation, according to the Express .

Rangers signed Windass from Accrington Stanley for a fee of around £200,000 two years ago

He struck 18 goals last season but continues to split opinion among the Ibrox faithful.

However, Cardiff boss Neil Warnock is a big fan of the player and is determined to get a deal over the line.

But Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is also keen on Windass who still has three years left on his contract.

£3m isn't that much of a gamble in today's market. 18 goals from midfield is great

On the face of it not a priority, which to me suggests NW has his CM deals done I. E Grujic with gunners on staying.

If windass signs, we have 9 players rotating in the front 4 positions.

Reid, Patterson
Hoilett, nml
Murphy, windass
Zohore, madine
Plus D. Ward

Means that Kadeem Harris misses out on a squad place, along with Tomlin, pilks, bogle, healy..

That's leaving a squad spot for a RB.

Those 18 goals in Scotland equate to nothing really as its such a poor league and I don't think he is anywhere near to coming here

Could go 1 of 2 ways from Scotland, I agree. But Rangers aren't the force they used to be so 18 goals in their team in midfield is decent. Don't forget Van Dijk & Wanyama came from Scotland.

Makes sense. I think RB is the only position to fill if we get 2 CM's plus Gunnar signing a new deal.

How old is he? Maybe Warnock thinks he's an investment and may loan him out. We have to think about the future too and no better time to attract these type of players whilst we're in the prem.

24 I think. So needs to come of age this season really. Or next season at most. He's worth a gamble if the release clause is really that small.

Don't think he is up to Premier League football.

Strange signing for me 5th choice winger if he's lucky could even be 6th or 7th choice money could be spent better elsewhere

He could well make it? Could all be BS though. But yeah, worth a punt for £3m. Southampton just paid £7m for an SPL player who's older and playing for a better team and hasn't scored as many as Windass (I think)

3m is such a non event that we might as well buy him if hes available. Could be good, could be shite, but worth the risk

I concur. Especially given it's a good age and scored a fair few goals. My worry is it's just another Paul/Tom Ince thing where they're just taking the mick and trying to get interest or angling for a new contract at Rangers. Paul and Tom Ince screwed us over royally

Don't forget Paterson who made a successful switch from Scotland as well
