Paterson role this season

Wed Jun 27, 2018 1:14 pm

With the players we are linked with what do you think will happen to Callum Paterson? I personally like him and he was one of our key players last season but for some reason i can see him warming the bench a lot unless they revert him back to right back.

Your thoughts?

I think he'll be used as a super sub, can see him chipping in with a couple of goals from the bench, don't think he's got enough about him to be a cm and Warnock says he can't defend so an awkward one.

I agree think he will start on the subs bench, it would ideal if NW can get him to defend better and resolve the issue over right back

Unless we change style and go with wingbacks which seems unlikely then I only see him as a sub.

I'd love it if he could develop as a useful right back

2 weeks ago I was told that Patterson was going to be loaned out to a Championship club until January

The proviso was that he played central midfield and gets some genuine experience of being a box to box midfielder

At the time I thought this was complete sh**e, however the more I think about it the more it makes sense

He would be one of the first names on the team sheet for me , he scores goals, works hard , wins headers , the amount of goals from midfield in half a season coming back from an acl injury? He will only get better with a full preseason .

Can't see that happening at all. Warnock likes to keep these kind of players around and he is one of few players with an eye for goal.

I'd think we would have to have to have a huge budget and bring in a lot of proven quality to allow that.

I can’t see it either..but I suppose it does make a little bit of sense he was bought as a full back but played most of the season as a sort of no10 just behind the striker. Never really played as a box to box midfielder. 4 months playing that role in the championship will bring him back a better player in January..so who knows

Its hard to see him starting many games next season. In the important matches last season he was used as a sort of secondary right back anyway, and we didnt get the most out of him.

Surely we will be bringing in players for the middle of the park so his role will be limited.

he does have this nack of turning up at the right time to score thats for sure and his attitude seems great but he is not a midfield player , Warnock took a gamble , got away with it last season not so sure we will next...

He will be in our 25 man squad, ideal guy to bring on and change game tactics,Warnock’s plan B. We need 2+ players in every position plus extra strikers, only a emergency goalkeeper can be brought in once window closes.A lot of our players need to go out on loan or given away but Paterson will definitely stay!
