Alex Smithies set for Cardiff City medical as Neil Warnock closes in on TWO transfers

Alex Smithies will undergo a medical today as Cardiff City look to finalise his transfer from Queens Park Rangers.

The Bluebirds are understood to have had a bid accepted for the QPR goalkeeper — while Neil Warnock is working on another permanent transfer that could be completed in the next few days.

The fee for Smithies is in the region of £3million plus add-ons and barring any paperwork or medical mishaps, the 28-year-old will soon become Cardiff's third signing of the summer. Smithies former club Huddersfield could be set for a sell-on fee if and when the move is rubber-stamped.

And that may not be the end of the Bluebirds' transfer activity this week as the club work on another permanent signing.

The Bluebirds have been linked with loans for Marko Grujic and Robert Snodgrass but it appears Warnock and his scouts have found another deal that is being kept closely under wraps.

It is likely to be a winger or central midfielder that the club brings in.

What seems certain is that, pending a medical at Cardiff City Stadium, Smithies will join Josh Murphy and Greg Cunningham as a Cardiff player with Warnock a long-term admirer of the former Huddersfield man.

"He’s been good for 18 months now," said Warnock after Cardiff's win over QPR in August last year.

"When you talk about the Premier League i’m surprised nobody has come in for him because he’s the best I’ve seen for many years."

It would not surprise me to see us buying a player at a reduced fee that we we supposed to be having on loan that would leave a loan spot open, maybe for a striker

Just spoke to him at Llandough Hospital along with 2 other young looking players, he confirmed he was having a medical. There were 3 other guys presumably agents waiting in the Cardiology Dept, they were then going to Nuffield Hospital in the Bay

Sorry everyone I forgot to teach them the Ayatollah PLEASE forgive me guys. My daughter who had an appt at the Cardiology Dept said to me "Dad, that guy looked a bit nervous when you spoke to him", I said he would be more bloody nervous if I had said about the Ayatollah

Agree with you He is no longer young and has not go what it takes for where we are now Sure he may come up with one magic moment once every 10 games which people remember and forget the rest of his play

Me too although during summer international competitions transfers tend to happen slower and towards the end of the window. Im delighted with the signings so far tough.

They WERE there when I got to the Cardiology Dept for my daughter's appt at 8.40am,they left to go to Nuffield Health in the Bay just before 9am. The one agent was saying follow me in convoy then after the medicals were finished they were going straight to the Vale training ground
