The left strike again....

Wed Jun 27, 2018 7:28 am

This is why I can never take so called liberals seriously these days.there was a time Liberals fought for real beliefs but these days it's just look for issues that don't exist. Now Trying to ban the Michael caine film Zulu for its racist undertones.

They seek wrong in everything these days, there's no real cause they just look for conflict.

Generalising a bit there. I would consider myself more left than right wing, although some of my opinions overlap between both, but I don't have a problem with this.

It says 28 people wrote in protest, thats barely a representation of the whole left. Not even sure it mentions who the people were, so they could be from any section of the political bracket.

In the vote, however, almost 18,000 have voted and 92% want it banned. Again, no mention of representation.

Take your comments to a messageboard where someone cares .

Would suggest the Daily Mail

Given the role parade by Welsh soldiers in the battle and the fact that one of the films most famous scenes-(however inaccurate)- is those soldiers singing Men of Harlech, I would respectively suggest that many people on a Cardiff City messageboard do care.

Do we ban ISLAM next?

Thats a religion which advocates killing non muslims

What about sections of christianity (As ISLAM) which
Oppose equal rights for women and classing a
faggot as a criminal requiring jail or worse?

What about jailing me for calling a gay a faggot?

Your right Jim I did generalise and apologies for that but my point is there are a section of the left looking for Confluct when it's not there, I'll also add there are a fair share of idiots on the right but it's the attempts to shut down debate that wind me up.

The vote actually says that 92% say that the film should be shown - not that it should be banned.

Nobody is forcing them to watch it. If they don't like it or don't agree with it. don't watch it. Simples.

You'd probably find I'm the most liberal person on here and I have no problem with Zulu. It is not a celebration of colonialism but tells the story of the plucky guys managed to survive such an onslaught. I watched it recently with some Ugandan friends of mine who enjoyed it. It does take a few historic liberties but not as much as the letter says. In fact I think the film shows the Zulus to also be an awesome and terrifying force. I am not sure there is anything racist in it. There is a debate about what we were doing there in the first place but the film is not about that at all.

However 28 people hardly represents the left :) - and the 92% of people who want it shown will be from a cross section of political beliefs.

Incidentally I was at Rorkes Drift recently, What a staggering landscape it is. Unbelievable.

28 people wrote a letter objecting and by all accounts have been overruled. No one is shutting down debate. Whether you agree with them or not (I don't) they had the right to object and they did so. Isn't that healthy?

Incidentally, the UK 'banned' the Exorcist due to pressure from right wing evangelicals at the time, so banning things comes from both sides. What a film that is, brilliant.

Trying to prevent the freedom of choice to others isn't healthy.

Ref exorcist disagree (again) truly awful film lol although watch the remake of IT to see a truly awful horror movie.

So are you saying the 28 shouldn't have been allowed to object and write a letter?

I liked the Exorcist, and the remake of IT was not a horror... it was more of an adventure movie in the same vein as the Goonies.

Don't confuse 'liberals' with 'the left'.

a small percentage of the right go around pulling nazi salutes and plotting to kill British MPs in the name of Britain, but I doubt anyone on here would be foolish enough to think those people are representative of right wing politics.

Stupid generalisation, the people who want the film banned are idiots, but this group are hardly a representation of the left as this post implies.
