Cardiff City massive favourites to sign £20m Premier League hitman

HITC

Thursday 31st May 2018

For many it was a surprise that the Bluebirds went up, but went up they did driven by Mr Promotion himself Neil Warnock. For boss Warnock it was a record eighth promotion and it will see him pit his wits, and tongue, against some of the best in the business in a league often thought to be football’s finest.

Not only will it be manager Warnock who’ll be slugging it out with some of the best managers in the world, his players will also be stepping up in competition. The Welsh side will find themselves playing with some of the finest football talent on the planet.

Goals will be at a premium, and this is a Cardiff side led by the 10 goals of midfielder Callum Patterson with forwards Junior Hoilett and Kenneth Zohore pitching in next with nine goals apiece. To that end, they could do with a more proficient and deadly goal scorer.

At the moment Cardiff City are massive favourites with bookie Bet Victor to land Watford’s £20 million striker Andre Gray. As it stands the Bluebirds are evens favourites to land the Hornets star, the nearest challengers being Premier League duo Everton and Brighton who are lagging way behind both given odds of 10/1.

Gray made his name at Luton Town scoring 55 goals and providing 25 assists in 106 games for the Hatters before a £560,000 move to Brentford at the beginning of July 2014. After 20 goals and 10 assists in just 52 games for the Bees, he was soon buzzing off to Burnley for an astronomical fee of £11.2 million.

Two seasons at Turf Moor, one in the Championship and one in the Premier League, brought 32 goals for the Wolverhampton born hitman – as well as a £18.4 million move to current club Watford in early august last year.

With Cardiff looking for goals, and Andre Gray having a knack of getting them, it’s seemingly a match made in heaven.

We are not going to sign a £20M player and wages of whatever he is on.

Cardiff City have learnt lessons in wasting money as most go to greedy players and agents with little to the growing of the club.

I will be happy if we buy hungry players and not some journeymen we are linked to. If we go down then so be it :ayatollah:

Should know by now transfer at not 20 million cash up front ,could be a number of staggered payments

I have a feeling that Warnock knows that he has to get a goal scorer and will spend the best part of his budget on a proven striker. We know how important that is after our last Prem experience.

He’ll then use loans and his experience to get in good players in other positions.

Whether that means it’s Gray as the striker is another matter but I wouldn’t be too surprised at that sort of level of striker coming in.

If you have a look at the Watford forum fans are not very complimentary at least. The vast majority have written very negative comments and it appears many would like to see him leave the club. Well worth a read. Neil Warnock May be able to get the best out of Gray but it appears as though the Watford fans have been very unimpressed with him & have given up on him.

Spot on the most important decision Warnock has to make is which Striker he buys, whoever it is will take a fair chunk of his budget because they are all over priced because every team in the World is after more goals!

I think if you want Prem players you have to pay the going rate. Warnock has said he wants players that will add something to what we've already got so I think there may be legs in this one as it doesn't seem to be going away.If you try and stick to a championship wage structure thats exactly where we'll end up.

I think if he does come there will be a Tomlin feel about the deal,i.e.one figure for public consumption but the real details will be kept quiet to avoid the egg on Watfords face as they must surely take a hit if they move this guy on.

8 million plus add ons, this seems to be the norm now.
4million extra if we stay up?

Not got the link but have a look at the Gray thread on the Watford Forum - not good reading.

How much would Vydra cost, half of them would prefer to have him, now that does sound like a Warnock type of signing!

I think 12 mil could buy us a better value player, even tho I like gray I think the money could be better spent abroad, we just need abit of luck for once with foreign signings

Rem Andre Gray has been a bit of a loose cannon/bad boy and Warnock loves those type of players and gets the best out of them :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

I don't know many clubs who are positive about players leaving.

Annis is there any truth in this do you know or isit just speculation silly season bollocks? Would love him here my type of player and would suit our so called bullying team

He’s ok is Gray. Did well for Burnley. Carries a bit of baggage. Cant see watford letting him go for nowt though. Doubt we’ll have £20m to throw at this. Strikers are pricey sadly.

Re: ' Striker Andre Gray on his way to Cardiff City? '

Warnock would get a tune out of him definitely, he’s his type of player. I’m not surprised at the price, strikers do demand a lot of cash especially in the premier, even average ones.

You should have heard what the Wolves fans said when we signed Bothroyd.
I reckon that it depends how a player is played / treated at a club along with many other things. One mans meat is another mans poison as the saying goes :bluescarf:

Yes agree. If you looked at our forum some time ago you would find loads of people slagging off Morrison, the same as Gunnar is getting now. The point being you can never please everybody. If Gareth Bale and Lionel Messi were with us they'd get some criticism from some people at some time.

So true. Most useless info ever

Re: ' Striker Andre Gray on his way to Cardiff City? '

Seems a bit expensive but I don’t believe the 20m even with a smaller amount upfront. I like him though and I think Warnock could get the most out of him.

I wouldn’t worry about the Watford Forum, if they read ours over the years they would think everyone is useless lol. Zohore has been written off at least twice.

Good player, works hard so will suit us, Can see £7m plus £5m more if we stay up.

Well if we think Andre grey is to big a catch for us then we are coming straight back down.

Re: ' Striker Andre Gray on his way to Cardiff City? '

The only area Warnock has struggled in is upfront. He can find a solid defender and midfielder better than most manager in the Premier League. What he cannot do is find a striker.

If we sign Gray I’ll be shocked, not only because of the price tag but because it’s to much of a gamble. Where’s the money for a solid bench gonna come from??

10 mill on a striker, 8 mill on 2 solid midfielders.

2 loan signings off the top 6 clubs.

Not ambitious but reasonable.
